That's just semantics. They said they were interesting in/going after/whatever a TOR and once they understood the price they bailed.

They didn't finish the job with the rotation, the pen and the lineup and hoped for the best. One of the three worked out and here we are.
Is not semantics. Saying that he said he was going to add is just plain not true. They said they were going to look into it. They never said they were going to. Disagree with what they did, fine, but they didn't ever say they were for sure going to add someone.
It takes two to tango so nobody EVER says FOR SURE. That would be crazy because would lose all leverage in the negotiations.

This is what bpj said. "Go after" not absolutely get for sure.
They even said they were going after a #2.

When you say cost it was what had to be given up in trade, it wasn't about signing a free agent. The comment was made at the end of the off season
Both, you also have to pay the guy's salary.

Even if you were to have hit the jack pot on a DH you still have a losing record
Josh Bell 2.4 WAR
Our DH's -0.4 WAR

Net 2.8 WAR

Current record. 40-42
Record with Bell at DH 43-39. 1 game out of the WC.
Is that fWAR? He isn't putting the same WAR up as a DH. What's the current leaderboard of DHs? I can't find that stuff

I've seen people say "Jerry lied" or "Jerry said they were going to add a TOR arm". He didn't. To what point did he go after them? I don't know, but there certainly wasn't a guarantee.

Potato, potatoe. Or whatever.

It's semantics. Of course he didn't guarantee it. He said they'd like to add a #2SP, they saw the cost, they changed their mind.
You are saying that the difference between saying they ARE going to add someone and saying they are going to LOOK AT adding someone is semantics?

I didn't see anybody say that Dipoto guaranteed they were going to add someone.

Actually Jerry did say that. Just didn't follow through.

And Dtrain already pointed out that he said that in response to me saying that Dipoto said he was going after a #2.

Nobody said they were going to get one, just that they said they were going after one and Dtrain posted a quote. Then they decided the price/prospect cost was too much so they switched gears and went with Brash with Kirby as the backup.

Pitching has carried the team. They just couod have carried it even more with a #2.
