There isn't going to be any more trades. They were going with Urias at 3B from the second they traded for him. They didn't trade Campbell to pay $5M for a bench guy. Rojas put up almost 1 WAR in just 134 PAs. He can platoon with Urias if need be.
What was his WAR hitting for a 70 wRC+ at 3B for the DBacks last year?

I just don't like wet noodles taking up power spots.

The trade hasn't stopped them from potentially trading one of Miller or Woo...
Is the Cease deal still on the table? Are we still interested in something like that?
 There was never a Cease deal on the table....

Rojas, Urias, and Polanco give us redundancy in the infield, which we've not had since I don't know when.
Feels like we are in a much better spot counting on either Rojas or Urias instead of having to count on Rojas AND Urias...
Great point! And great way to looks at it. Obviously not perfect but better. That is all we poverty stricken Beggars can hope for as fans of this team.

Why would you have Rojas starting 3rd base over Urias?
I think it'll be a platoon. I haven't seen Urias, so I don't know what kind of hitter he is. I hope he's as good or better than Rojas. I'll reserve judgement until I can get my eyes on him.
Neither should be staring 3B for a playoff hopeful team
No team has 9 Above average position players in the lineup. Even the mighty Braves have settled for shit show POS JK as one of their COFers...

SS-Crawford
CF-JRod
2B-Polanco
C-Raleigh
DH-Garver
LF-Raley
1B-France
3B-Rojas
RF-Haniger

Looks pretty complete
We can hope.

To me it looks like a lineup without any actual middle of the order hitters.

It's a lineup full of guys that should be batting 6th and nobody deserving of hitting 3rd or 4th.

Hopefully their depth can carry them but they just look like another team that'll almost make the playoffs, but won't, imo.
I was thinking about that too. This lineup would look a lot better with Teo right smack dab in the middle of it.
LOL there are 6 guys in the lineup with a higher OPS than Teo had last season. I wanted Bellinger but once they decided they were broke I knew that wouldn't happen. Are there any .900 OPS guys in the lineup? Barring a Julio breakout there are not but there are only 10 .900+ OPS guys in baseball and the only one we had a shot at was Yandy Diaz who probably would have fallen on his face at T Mobile.

Is what it is.

I don't see it as a competition, Urias needs to produce at 3rd base, if he doesn't you're not going to get significant production out of Rojas there. Really that's what the lineup turns on seems to me. If you can get Geno level production out of Urias then it looks pretty good
WAR
Rojas
2021 - 1.8
2022 - 2.7
2023 - 1.1
Total - 5.6

Urias
2021 - 2.1
2022 - 2.3
2023 - -0.1
Total - 4.3

Even ignoring 2023 Rojas is slightly better. Only advantage Urias has is age and Rojas is only 29 yo

Pessimistic attitude, the line up is as good as we end end the season with and better then day 1 we started and wasted 3 months with. IMO good enough to get to -layoffs. Addition by subtraction with Pollock, Lastella, and Wong gone.
It's just as good as last season!

When we didn't make the playoffs.
The OD lineup and Bench is massively objectively better than last season. Perhaps slightly better than it was in the second half when we finished 50-32 almost a 100 win pace.

From Drayer, thinks they will platoon 3rd, has Polanco hitting 3rd
The addition of the switch-hitting Polanco at second base will eliminate a planned platoon at that position, likely moving it to third base where the platoon can be better utilized with Luis Urías and Josh Rojas.

“The switch-hit is huge for us the way our team is constructed,” said Hollander. “To have a guy who’s platoon neutral who can hit in the middle of our lineup from either side is a big advantage for Scott (Servais) as he stacks the lineup up to be able to go left, right, switch.”

Polanco, who hit primarily in the top three spots of the order for the Twins in recent years, could slide into the No. 3 spot for the Mariners, solidifying the top of the order before mixing and matching through the middle. The addition gives length to the lineup, and it builds a stronger bench. One of Mitch Haniger, Dominic Canzone or Luke Raley will be available off the bench each niDylan Moore, catcher Seby Zavala, and Rojas or Urías.

Of course she has him hitting 3rd because she is a mindless dope that believes whatever they are selling and thinks Julio will get massively more PAs hitting second when the actually number is about 17 which go along with 600+ with less guys on base.

And neither is haniger or hoping for improvement from France
Yep, good point.

2023 - 2024
Caballero - Urias
Suarez- Polanco
Hernandez - Haniger
Wong - Rojas
Kelenic - Raley
Murphy - Zavala
Hummell- Hunt
Ford - Garver
Pollock - Canzone
La Stella - Trammell

Looks like some slight upgrades, and some slight downgrades. Obviously not all apples to apples comparisons in the matchups, but doesn't look that much better than last seasons roster overall imo.

The only difference is we haven't been disappointed by this year's crop yet.
Yeah, shooting for his 88 wins. He could keep this up for a number of years, particularly if he doesn't trade Woo or Moore. I argued the 54% didn't equate to 88 wins a season but seems Dipoto could feel that way.

On the other hand, get some luck with career type seasons and you could get in the 95 win range. That's the basis of the strategy.
As I predicted the Projection is now 42 WAR and 90 wins. They need to add a win or two by signing a legit reliever or two.

Should we have just signed some big FA bats? Absolutely but I can sit here and say it should be 75 degrees and sunny here in Boston all winter and it is just as pointless and ineffective to do that. I've given up on bitching about the payroll.

I was thinking in terms of power, think
Urias has more potential
