Which would be surprising at this point unless their goal this offseason was to cut payroll. Its not as though they will enter into the Alonso/Bregman sweeps so there really is nobody left to sign.GL_Storm wrote: ↑Sun Jan 05, 2025 9:46 pmThe Mariners would have to be more interested in dropping Castillo's salary than they've so far indicated, which is possible I suppose. But even there, it would have to be Lux + Prospects for Castillo.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Sun Jan 05, 2025 9:29 pmThere's Dodgers fans thinking they are going to get Luis Castillo straight up for Lux...GL_Storm wrote: ↑Sun Jan 05, 2025 9:21 pmThis came up in my news feed. I'm not sure how credible it is, but it reads like reporting more than blogging.

Anyway, it gives credence to the idea that the Dodgers are at least somewhat willing to move Gavin Lux, though I'm not sure why unless they're super duper confident that Kim is the future at 2B.
My opinion: Lux would work but they shouldn't overpay for him. He's no great prize and he's been injured quite a bit.
I suppose winning World Titles and having $400 million payrolls doesn't mean your fans have much of a clue.

Watch them shock the world by signing both Bregman and Alonso lol it sorta happened before when we landed Beltre and Sexson on the same day.

So, this proposal is Castillo for Vientos straight up. I think the M's would take it in a heartbeat, which probably makes it unlikely to actually happen.seattlefan-daBronx wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 1:23 amWhat about this idea?????

See where his contract was projected as $1,5 mil, fit the mariners budget

They really could, Pack up Haniger to the Whitesox with a prospect for a nothing prospect. =17.5MHasslecracked wrote: ↑Sun Jan 05, 2025 10:33 pmWatch them shock the world by signing both Bregman and Alonso lol it sorta happened before when we landed Beltre and Sexson on the same day.
Trade Castillo for a player. make it a 3-way for Lowe. that saves you another 13.6M
They had around 20M, + 31.1M from those moves.
MLBTR top 50 with predictions has #7 Alonso at 5/125M, Bregman at 7 years for 182M. I thought that is a bit high on the 31-year-old Bregman, and a little soft on the age 30-34 season for Alonso. But let's use those predictions.
Pete adds 25M/year
Alex adds 26M a year
Even money:
1. Robles RF
2. Raley* DH
3. JRod CF
4. Pete 1B
5. Cal** C
6. Bregman 3B
7. Lowe* 2B
8. Randy LF
9. JP* SS

It's not turning on the season payroll, what scares them is the total contract involved. Stanton is on record for his distaste for major long term contracts.
That and they aren't getting Alonso away from the Mets
