Yeah, they traded a top 100 prospect, plus two other guys, for a bat they could have easily found in free agency (if they were willing to spend).Donn Beach wrote: ↑Tue Feb 03, 2026 4:21 pmI think it be a mistake to consider Cjintje as some sort of throw away. They traded a top 100 prospect for Donovan, that's what he is. Dipoto got away with not trading a premium prospect. Next seasons draft pick, hopefully is going to be pretty low. I think it could be less valuable than Cjintje who went 15th in the draft and has actually been progressing pretty wellbpj wrote: ↑Tue Feb 03, 2026 4:09 pmWould anyone be happy we traded next years first round draft pick for Donovan instead of last years?
People just see Cjintje as a circus act failure already so they don't care about losing him.
No chance I'd trade any first rounder for JP Crawfords bat.
But here we are...
Not just that, but for a bat that's been about equal to J.P. Crawford.
Crazy, man.
Re: Breaking we just got Donovan!
It certainly wouldn't hurt but I can't think of a big bat that was traded this off season and we were never going to be in on the A list FA Bats.Sexymarinersfan wrote: ↑Tue Feb 03, 2026 4:03 pmI agree, I think they are done too. It still doesn't negate the fact that we need another big bat.D-train wrote: ↑Tue Feb 03, 2026 3:24 pmThey are done and there are no big hitters left.Sexymarinersfan wrote: ↑Tue Feb 03, 2026 4:01 am
They still need another bat. Donovan is a high on base guy. He's perfect for the top of a lineup. But they need another big hitter.

Cjintje could be pitching for the cardinals this season. He could start having success pretty quickly. The mariners paid a lot for Donovan, hopefully it becomes worth it

Are you sure that T-mobile isn't the reason so many Mariner players seem to "sell out for power"? Seems i've heard a lot about the batter's eye and cooler air (enhancing the effect of spin on the ball) making it harder to track balls at T-mobile.Sexymarinersfan wrote: ↑Tue Feb 03, 2026 10:46 amDonovan is very consistent year to year and he is elite (or near elite) in contact/on base skills. A low OBP would be truly bizarre and inexplicable for him. TMobile is usually a lot more unkind to hitters who sell out for power (like Geno). Also the Mariners lineup has suffered a lot in recent years from poor builds and hitting philosophy as much as the home park factor. I”m not saying it isn’t a thing, but I think we’re starting to see that you can offset it with a tweak in approach and that there are types of hitters who’s skillset is better suited for the park (Josh Naylor for instance). Brendan Donovan has a perfect profile for TMobile, and the Mariners have targeted him very specifically because of that. Not to mention the fact that he solves a bunch of questions and problems for us defensively over the next 2 years.
Anyway, has anyone bothered to look at Donovan's ballpark splits?

Duran is still available. They want a big league starting pitcher though so that seems pretty far fetched especially now that Evans is out.D-train wrote: ↑Tue Feb 03, 2026 3:24 pmThey are done and there are no big hitters left.Sexymarinersfan wrote: ↑Tue Feb 03, 2026 4:01 amThey still need another bat. I just don't have any issue with giving up any of these guys. JC was good at one thing'; pitching RH and getting RH hitters out. He walked 39 guys in 41 innings throwing LH. Insane. Now he is either going to have to pitch to LH bats 100% of the time or figure out how to pitch LH which he wasn't even close to doing this past season. I see him a s RH Justus Sheffield another first round pick that showed promise and even pitched well for us in 2020 but eventually went bust.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Tue Feb 03, 2026 4:34 pmCjintje could be pitching for the cardinals this season. Peete had a .682 OPS in A ball and a 30%+ K rate both of the past two seasons.
Williamson hit 1 HR in 295 MLB PAs and even when he increase his power he only hit 5 in two months in the hitters Paradise that is the PCL. 15 HR pace.
He was nominally a switch-pitcher in 2025, but one who got tuned up by minor league hitters for an OPS over 1.000 by both lefty and righty batters when pitching lefty. His right arm is his better asset, but an .845 OPS in right-on-left matchups raises the question of whether he'll have a fatal flaw even if the Cardinals continue the Mariners' mission to transition him to righty-only pitching.

I did. Really small sample size at T-mobile he was 0-4 with 2 K's in one game in 2023. Kirby was the starter. He grounded out, Popped out and Struck out against Kirby and then Topa struck him out again.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Tue Feb 03, 2026 4:50 pmAre you sure that T-mobile isn't the reason so many Mariner players seem to "sell out for power"? Looking at the NL marine layer parks, he actually has hit quite well. .308/438/.577 at petco and .419/.471/.710 at Oracle. Over 1.000 OPS in both stadiums.
Re: Breaking we just got Donovan!
Yeah the have said 54 times they aren't doing that and yes it would crazy given the Evans and JC news. Minimal SP depth right now. btw Jerry had to know this trade had already been agreed upon in principle when he did his Q & A at fanfest. He does do and not do what he says he is going to do and not do so have to give him credit for that.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 03, 2026 5:01 pmDuran is still available.
