That's LivesMatter, he's trying to impersonate WAR so we don't know it's him but he didn't know he changed his handle so he exposed himself, although it was pretty easy to see through anyway.

One of the oddities of the transition to here was that Somebody's Son turned into the arbiter of sensible thinking on the ST forum after everyone left. I found myself agreeing with everything he said.

I miss Somebody’s Son.

Agreed, I wish he had not gotten his feelings hurt. He was out there but at least he had some original thoughts and hit on one or two every once in awhile.
At least he's a consistent poster.

Me too, as crazy as he got he'd probably be a really fun guy to go to a game with. I can just see him with a big foam M on his head.

I still love this one. OPS isn't fair to MallexIStillLoveTheMs wrote: ↑Tue May 28, 2019 4:02 amWhy OPS isn't fair to guys who can steal bags. In my humble opinion...
Mallex has effectively 2 lead off doubles.
Edit: now triple.
Double edit: now homerun LOL

Re: In memorium: Mariners vs Rangers game thread
Not defending Mallex, but OPS is a flawed stat to look at for guys like Mallex Smith, or Dee Gordon who are able to steal bases. Their problem isn't their lack of OPS, but their lack of OBP. .302 isn't going to cut it for Smith. If he had a .360 OBP, but only a .700 OPS with a lot of walks and singles, he'd be much more valuable. Dee had the same problem last year. His average dropped to about .280 and he didn't take any walks. They do no good when they are not on base. Thats why I hated Dee so much last year. 6 fucking walks, the entire year!!!!bpj wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 6:31 pmI still love this one. This year the M's aren't contending, and they upgraded at Catcher after trading Zunino. I don't think they have a lot invested into Mallex Smith, and they won't have a problem moving on from him once Kelenic and Lewis are ready next year.

See what I'm saying about people here still using OBP for these guys?Juliooooo wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 6:55 pmNot defending Mallex, but OPS is a flawed stat to look at for guys like Mallex Smith, or Dee Gordon who are able to steal bases. Their OPS still matters, you look at their SB as an added factor to either OBP or OPS.
No matter how you slice it, Mallex and Dee would be negative players in the corners unless they had at least a .775 OPS as we have seen Mallex demonstrate.
With a .360 OBP you could stick him in CF and not have to worry about a positional adjustment negating his value. COF produce OPS at such a higher rate that it renders these guys literally useless out there. You HAVE to take OPS into account when a player is being compared. Then you can look at SB's.
Re: In memorium: Mariners vs Rangers game thread
The OPS would go up if the OBP went up, but it doesn't need to be .800 for them to have a significant contribution. Mallex Smith needs to raise his OPS by getting on base more, not by hitting HRs. Vogey gets his value with Slugging, the OBP helps his OPS, but its the slugging that makes the difference for his value. Mallex Smith could hit .320 average with a .320 slugging (all singles) and still make a significant contribution, as long as he is taking walks as well to get his OBP up.bpj wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 7:15 pmSee what I'm saying about people here still using OBP for these guys?Juliooooo wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 6:55 pmNot defending Mallex, but OPS is a flawed stat to look at for guys like Mallex Smith, or Dee Gordon who are able to steal bases. And nobody looks at Mallex as a long term piece in the corner (I don't even see him as a long term piece in CF because his defense is average at best, and he's not getting on base enough). He's playing in the corners due to injuries, so looking at his value in terms of being a corner outfielder is pointless imo. I care about what their value is when the M's are ready to compete. At that point, I think Kelenic will be manning CF (at least thats my hope).

It needs to be .800 in a CORNER. Period. Unless you're a Rickey/Ichiro level OPS with the speed.
Guys like Dyson, Aoki, Mallex, they'll never be COF because they'll never have a high enough OBP to make up for their lack of SLG.
OBP will never replace SLG in a corner because they'll never have a high enough OBP to get to an .800 OPS.
35 of 50 RF with over 200 PA have an OPS of at least .775. That's the absolute low bar for a decent teams right fielder.
32 of 49 LF ....
Domingo Santana being #31. Hes WORSE than we should get from a COF. And guys like Mallex Smith couldn't hold his jock strap.
No, the OPS gap is too significant for a speedster to survive in a corner.
