You have no idea what JK is going to be next year. And neither do I. I know he went off and worked on his game and it seemed to work through ST and his 1st 2 months of regular season games.Big_Maple wrote: ↑Mon Nov 20, 2023 4:49 pmIt's a risk. He went from Cy Young numbers to being demoted to AAA in a single season. An absolute implosion.
The way I see it is we have tried the JK experiment. We have done everything we could reasonably do, and the fact is JK is not playing to his potential. At this point, he is a known commodity. I don't think trotting him out there for another year is going to change anything. He'll be streaky. He'll swing at stuff way outside the strike zone. He'll throw pissy temper tantrums and kick Gatorade coolers. He'll put up 2.0 WAR and be right around 100 OPS+
In other words, we know what we're going to get with JK. Nothing will likely change next year.
But Manoah - he could potentially bounce back and become a TOR guy, eat 190 innings, strike out 180 batters, and give you a 2.80 ERA
He has the potential to be the bounce back payer of the year next year. Who knows what was going on - it doesn't seem physical, so it must have been mental.
I don't think the M's do a good job developing hitters, but we do a pretty good job with our pitchers. So there's a lot of potential here that our pitching staff can work with. So I say get rid of a guy who is league average for a guy who could potentially be lights out again.
.277 .333 .513 .846
His next 2 months
.214 .302 .328 .630
The last month
.261 .370 .283 .653 ( His last 54 PAs he only had 1 XBH but the .261 average and .370 OBP were signs of coming out of the slump.
I we could trade with the Jays as something like JK and Juan Then for Alek I would be fine with it. But we don't know that the M's pitching whispers the magic words of wisdom into Alek's ear. I don't know if the BJs think they can revamp him or not.
JK was mentally tougher this year. He improved his eye as the season went along.
I have brought up the Jose Ramirez comps before:
Jose R
Age 21 266 PAs 81 OPS+
Age 22 355 PAs 69 OPS+
Age 23 114 OPS+
Age 24 145 OPS+
JK
21 72 OPS+ (337 PAs)
22 55 OPS+ (163 PAs)
23 109 OPS+
24 ?????
I think JK takes another step forward in 2024. But I could be wrong. If JK gets you Alek and Alek allows you to trade say Gilbert and Miller for 2 similarly valued hitters.
Alek is a whacko he throws a 139 and then a 172 ERA+ and then drops a 72.
I doubt the BJs are ready to give up on him.
