The retired #51 controvery

Half of X is freaking out that they are retiring #51 both Randy and Ichiro as they should. They don't think a number should be retired for two guys. A retired number means no future players can wear it. I don't get what the big deal is but people will argue about anything these days.

They are both in the HOF.
They were both great Mariner players.
I don't see the harm.

The real question is.....
Did/does Ichiro really know what "Area 51" is?

Example of a stupid take on it.

It's not unprecedented, Yankees retired number 8 for both bill dickey and Yogi Berra. MLB retired the number 42 for Jackie Robinson but the Yankees also retired it for Mariano Rivera

I complain a lot but can't for the life of me understand why a single soul would have an issue with this.

Saw a clip where RJ said he told Mariner management that he would only agree to having his number retired if they waited until 2026 so it didn’t interfere with Ichiro’s
HOF induction this year. Thought that was a classy move on his part

Not only is that indeed a dumb analogy, but that idiot couldn't even get the number right. I'm guessing a lot of people replied, "You mean a DOUBLE play, right?"
