Poll on Ichiro
Poll on Ichiro
I always used to think the majority of our enlightened fan-base would be pro Ichiro but now I am not so sure. On the old forum we discussed this at length to the point DT was called an old racist.
so this a straight-up poll to ask yay or nay

Re: Poll on Ichiro
It seems to me it's the enlightenment you were overrating. Good luck with these fools.
Re: Poll on Ichiro
We can have a reasoned debate on this because there are good points on both sides of the argument here.
Re: Poll on Ichiro
In 2011 John Olerud got 4 votes or 0.7%. He finished his career with 57.2 fWAR.
In 2025 Ichiro is expected to be a 1st ballot HOFer with 57.8 fWAR
Clearly there is more to the HOF than WAR but that seems a little off.

Re: Poll on Ichiro
Those two things are not mutually exclusive. He was a hall of famer but he was also overrated and should have been traded earlier. Ichiro hit singles better than anybody in the game and had 200 hits in 10 consecutive years something we probably will never see again. Had he played his entire career in the US he would have been pushing 4000 hits easily. That alone should get him in the hall of fame. That being said he wasn't a 5 tool franchise player and should not have been paid the way he was. His defense really dropped off after 2006 and by the time he was traded he was a liability in the field. He hit for zero power not just home runs but extra base hits as well and he had zero plate discipline and never walked. Ichiro was great as a piece to a winning team but he wasn't capable of being the Bell cow. He ate up a very large percentage of the M's payroll and probably hamstrung the team from making other moves. He was pretty much done as an above average major leaguer by the time they traded him. If they would have done it a few years earlier they could have got a much better return.

So we either worship him or deplore him? As mentioned above, there is a mixture of good and bad feelings about Ichiro. In that regard he is like Shaun Alexander.

Yeah I realise the nuances and I could have had half a dozen choices but then we don't vote and argue the intricacies here.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2019 3:26 pmThis poll would be more useful if the choices were less extreme.

Fair enough. It's certainly adequate for a forum poll where at best you may get a murky vision of the leanings of its members.Dr Naysay wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2019 3:32 pmYeah I realise the nuances and I could have had half a dozen choices but then we don't vote and argue the intricacies here.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2019 3:26 pmThis poll would be more useful if the choices were less extreme.

To be honest the poll was a masquerade, I actually would love to hear peoples opinions on him. I honestly think its a great subject considering how divided people are about him.
For clarity I voted nay!
