Moore, the Mariners’ longest-tenured player this season, agreed to sign the deal with the Texas Rangers, The Athletic reported.
The Mariners designated Moore, 33, for assignment on Saturday and placed him on unconditional release waivers on Sunday, making him a free agent.
Moore won the American League Gold Glove for a utility player last year and had a scorching start this season, earning AL Player of the Week honors for April 14-20, when he hit .385 with three home runs and three stolen bases.
He landed on the injured list on April 29 with right hip inflammation. He was reinstated on May 6 and in his next 135 plate appearances for the Mariners he posted a wRC+ of 35 (where 100 is average) with a 43.7% strikeout rate, hitting .139 with a .461 OPS.
Over seven seasons in Seattle, Moore appeared in 671 games, playing every position other than catcher multiple times. He accumulated 7.2 Wins Above Replacement (Baseball Reference), posting a .205/.310/.381 slash line with 82 doubles, 11 triples, 61 homers, 192 RBI and 116 stolen bases.
Am I really supposed to put a lot of faith in WAR when seven seasons of .205 hitting equals 1 WAR per year? Instead of WAR, why don't we call it Mendoza?
