A lot in here so I decided to start a new thread. He says we should get "greedy" and go all in and sign Bregman or Bichette. I couldn't agree more but Greed is actually the reason there is negative infinity chance we do that.

Personally, I wouldn't even give a first thought on Bregman, he wouldn't thrive in Seattle and would cost a fortune. Now Bichette, on the other hand, I think I'd pay his price.
Only thing is, he's a shortstop and I doubt he would want to sign here and play second base. We would have to trade Crawford. If it were to happen though, Bichette at short and Young at second sounds pretty good and it would sound even better if they traded for Marte although we all know that's asking too much, unless we could say "So you're telling me there's a chance" to a negative infinity chance.

Totally agree. I cannot believe Bregman opted out leaving $84M on the table for just two years. Should have played it out and then got another contract. He was just good not great and certainly not $42M a year great AND missed significant time due to injury and is well into his 30s. I think he regrets that decision.
The will just let JP play out his contract and then slide Emerson over. They better hope Emerson hits MLB hits. Can't be another JK or their wonderful farm system will take a massive hit.

I love how he almost guarantees that we will have good players coming up through the farm for 5-7 years. LOL And he includes Morales who hung a 4.60 ERA and 1.4 WHIP in AA.

Obviously there have been good players that have come up here, but I always remember the can't miss guys that we had to keep, even though trading them at the deadline could have meant improving a team that was going to the playoffs.
Gil Meche, Joel Pineiro, Ryan Anderson come to mind. Or guys that did come up and amounted to Jack and Shit. Ackley, Clement, Reed and Kelenic. Or guys we traded for that were "can't miss", and missed. I guess that should have been where I put Reed also, but Smoke and Montero are the two big ones. I guess that is why I am never too worried when we trade Farm guys for proven prospects....even though that doesn't happen all that often.
I think way too much pride is taken by "home grown". I don't see Texas or LA discounting their WS rings because they didn't bring all of their players up through their system. If you have a great system, and you use it as trade bait to bring in proven talent, why isn't that just as good? Hell, it should be better. Give me proven talent now, not a bunch of guys that might end up being good down the road.

It is frustrating knowing the Mariners will use half measures to improve while the Blue Jay's are out signing Dylan Cease and meeting with Kyle Tucker.

I think the M's should go all in on Bichette. He's actually a perfect fit - literally, perfect. He could actually play 2B, and many teams who are looking at him view him as a 2B option. He has history there, and per this article, it may actually make sense to move him:

With Emerson and Celestin knocking on the door, and JP in the last year of his contract, it might make sense to lock Bichette in at 2B, let JP play out his contract, and let the Emerson and Celestin see if they can take over at 3B and SS.
I know it is a pipe dream and Bichette will resign with the Jays. But if the M's are going to get serious about anyone this offseason, the one that makes the most sense to me is Bichette. Yeah, they'd overpay to get him, but not as much and they would overpay to Tucker or Bregman.

I agree with almost all of that be Celesten isn't even standing on the sidewalk let alone knocking on any doors. .158/.602 in A ball.

I'm surprised there isn't more of a market for Bichette, or Kyle Tucker for that matter. It makes me think that the owners are all getting ready for the lock out to end all lock outs.

Sign Bichette, let other prospects work it out and trade them for need
