They almost win the WS and do they say that is good enough let's just run it back and maybe we win it all next season? No they do not. They go for it.
We could have easily afforded that deal.

I wouldn't of paid that. Glad we did not sign him. Plenty of options left.D-train wrote: ↑Sat Jan 03, 2026 9:09 pmThey almost win the WS and do they say that is good enough let's just run it back and maybe we win it all next season? No they do not. They go for it.

$15M x 4 is nothing. That is likely the AAV we offered Polanco. He would have been perfect. RH power bat that could have played 3B and then let Cole and Colt battle it out for 2B instead of giving it to them on a silver platter. Poverty franchise.Sexymarinersfan wrote: ↑Sat Jan 03, 2026 10:49 pmI wouldn't of paid that. Glad we did not sign him. Now we will have to trade prospects for a non power bat that can't hit LH pitching or a 32 yo with clubhouse issues. He was the last good FA bat left that we could have afforded. I guess the Japanese ban is still in effect.

(Scene cuts to Ichiro nodding)
Other front offices just want it more. But hopefully by July Cole and Colt (and I'm assuming that our front office is done) will develop faster than expected and we'll look back at this like we did Christian Walker last year.
Re: Okamoto signs with the Blue Jays
Walker was 33 yo and in obvious decline. I was glad we didn't sign him and it wasn't hindsight. Maybe Oka flops in the US but his OPS was .992. Ichiro's was .999 when we signed him.DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 04, 2026 12:51 am(Scene cuts to Ichiro nodding)

At least we have Ben Williamson....
Always a move or two short with Dipoto.

Yeah its always frustrating to be an M's fan. The sad thing is right now we are only running most of it back - the team as it sits now I'd argue is worse than the playoff team we had. We're asking quite a bit of Williamson/Young/Emerson to step into those roles and deliver well in their first/second type seasons. As we've all said - there are easily players to be had that signals a willingness to win the WS but this ownership group just doesn't have it in them. As I've stated and others - got no problem dealing one of Gilbert/Kirby. I'm really not sure why we aren't honestly - there is no way we re-sign both of them to 20-30mill/year contracts so deal 1 of them while we can. I don't know of Marte is the guy to do that for but you could have had Duran or somebody pretty good if we were willing to deal 1 of them. Right now they are just - lets run with what we got and we'll make a move at the deadline again if we need another bat - which we will.D-train wrote: ↑Sat Jan 03, 2026 9:09 pmThey almost win the WS and do they say that is good enough let's just run it back and maybe we win it all next season?
