Salk carrying water for the M's again

The only thing I don’t want the Mariners to do is to significantly overpay for the wrong player now, which would prevent them from giving up that same asset, that same younger prospect down the line for a player who could be the right move during the season.

Regardless of whether you add another bat, you want to create space for some of these young players to make an impact this year. That’s Cole Young, that’s Colt Emerson, that may be Ben Williamson, it might eventually be someone like Michael Arroyo – we’ll see.

Look, I don’t know that they’re going to come in and instantly be great players who are going to carry you to the playoffs once again, but if you don’t give them the opportunity, you never get to find out. And then you don’t get what Toronto had last year with players like Addison Barger, who played such an enormous role down the stretch and in the postseason for them.

I'm trying to think of another contender that "makes room" for young guys that haven't been knocking the door down with their minor league numbers.

These guys are barely 20 years old (except for Williamson who's a defense-first black hole) and haven't been that impressive. What's the rush?

Can't see any reason to hold the door open for any of them

It’s a leadership issue
Some leaders lead in spite of the obvious downside..other leaders count every decision against the cost to make it.

We might get there…..We might not…But we certainly aren’t going all in to find out

Kind of a shame the other contenders have looked to improve while we seem to be running in place at best. Spring Training tickets appear to be more expensive as the M's try to cash in. The thing that is so frustrating is that there are still some options out there if we are willing to pay the price.

Brother, you are blind if you can't see the reason. Take a peak a the kids' salaries vs. FAs or trade options.

Just once I wish I could feel what it's like to be a Yankee or Dodger fan and know the roster is going to improve.

Why are we always stuck in this goddamned place every season?

Even the freaking White Sox signed a top 10 FA. We couldn't even sign Okamoto for $15M a season even though we desperately needed a 3B.

And, as the Dodgers can attest, having Japanese stars on your team gives you a secondary market (i.e. source of revenue). You would think they would have realized that with Ichiro here all those years.

24 consecutive seasons with a Japanese player on the roster until Jerry implemented the ban once Kikuchi walked.
