It really seems sad on the poor coaching or team approach to ABS. We are the worse and not bc we havent picked good pitches to challenge but bc we dont use it.

An example “ Through Tuesday, Mariners hitters have had 15 pitches called strikes against them despite being outside the strike zone. That's 15 pitches that hypothetically could have turned into balls, including a league-high five called third strikes.” last sentence is important 5 called third strikes for outs

Confirms there are basically two lines in Heaven for babies being born. The athletic line and the IQ line. Rarely do anyone get at the front of both lines.

Well I like the belief a couple of team are using, if you shake your head at the called strike you should tap your helmet for challenge. I have seen several time where the M’s batter was surprised at call and did nothing

Yeah I guess we have most of the dumb ball players. At least our stars can hit. Oh wait....

I think it's a window into how the organization is run. It's unlikely those batters didn't want to challenge those bad calls, but something (or someone) is making them hesitant to do so.

Or could be a lack of strike zone awareness in general, which might explain why they strike out so much.

The Yankees seem prepared for how to use it. I'd bet the Mariners have barely had discussions on it. They don't seem to provide any type of guidance to these players.

Notice how every time a player actually improves its because they did something outside the organization like Hancock's offseason. Cal Raleigh working woth his high school coach or dad or whatever it was last offseason..

Side note, the Mariners batters had the 2nd highest K% in MLB in HOME games last year, 24.6%

But on the road, they were 18th in MLB, with a 22.2% rate.

To me, the Yankees showed the best approach to ABS. It looked to me that there had been some research done on both homeplate umpire and Castillo. You would think that the information is available on both by this time. Homeplate ump calls low strikes. Castillo works the bottom of the zone. Challenge - challenge - challenge!!!

I think that every time an opposing batter challenges a call and wins, the next pitch should be 98 and three inches under the batter's chin. That'll even things up in a hurry.

It's not being dumb, you have to practice it. It's muscle memory as much as anything. It has to be spontaneous, tapping the helmet. The Yankees aren't smarter, they spent ST practicing. In that sense Boone is smarter. It's discouraging to have let the opportunity slip by. It really does strike me as something to be practicing in ST, like bunting. More difficult once the season begins
