Does Joe have experience playing first base? If not, expect a few hot tosses from Donovan to get past his glove.

Refsnyder batting leadoff again. Wilson just doesn't learn, does he?
Maybe we should have a pool every winter on which 35+ year old right handed hitter the Mariners sign to hit lefties that turns into a complete disaster. I think that next year it'll be Starling Marte.

It tends to not work, doesn't it? I liked the idea of Refsnyder, but the actuality of the player is that he's right on the edge of the age cliff.

does
not
compute
Refsucker may turn out to be a valuable acquisition later on this season but he should be batting 7-8-9 until he wins a few games for the M's.

The problem with how the Mariners use their platoon bats is the problem.
The Red Sox got production from Refsnyder against lefties. But he still had 1/3 of his plate appearances against right handed pitching to keep his rhythm and keep his mind in the game.
In 2025 with the Red Sox, Refsnyder played in 70 games. He had 138 plate appearances against left handed pitching and 71 plate appearances against right handers.
In 2026 with the Mariners, he has 15 plate appearances against left handed pitching and 0 against right handers.
That's not necessarily what's wrong with Refsnyder now, he was never really very good, but it's part of their problem in general, why they get nothing from their platoon guys. Can't jerk them around like the M's do.
