I just don’t think Julio will reach his 5 tool potential simply

Due to his lack of plate discipline. I’m pretty sure the scouting report in bold face says he will get himself out swinging aggressively out of the zone while the few times he walks doesn’t seem to hurt. You have to wonder if he’s coachable. It’s a shame because he appears to be a great guy

If I’m pitching to him wouldn’t throw him a strike. He’ll swing at the slider in the dirt or 2 feet outside.
Easy to pitch to when he gets himself out all the time. He had great pitch recognition as a rookie, but that disappeared.

OPS: 68th in MLB (.756, sitting just behind Bryan Reynolds amd Christian Walker, just above Isaac Paredes and Brandon Nimmo)

WAR: 18th in MLB (9.6, because he does all that from center field. The two guys right ahead of him on that list are Vlad Jr., and Fernando Tatis Jr.)

They need to plop Julio in the 6th spot and let him come around. The problem is the same can be said for most of the lineup.

Crazy thing is Naylor and Cal have been significantly worse this season. Every other regular (lineup vs. RHPs) are going great. Donovan, Randy, Raley, Canzone, JP and Young. And even the dopey RH Bats Joe and Ref got hits today.

Dude drives me insane but a career 127 OPS+ is not mediocre. 95-105 is mediocre

Everyone forgets how really good he gets. Sure, he should do it the entire season. If he does that then he's a MVP. He's not an MVP, but he is the best center fielder in baseball

That's not true. He's a good player, including on offense. He just isn't the offensive force we thought we were getting. There's no approach, no thinking about what pitch he's looking for, a pitch that he can drive. He has access to two extremely legit hitting coaches but there's no improvement. Every AB with this guy is an entirely new experience.

I wonder if this is the curse of the too talented player, the guy that forces his way to the major leagues, but because he never really struggled or had any setbacks in the minors, he was never forced to confront his own limitations. Maybe that's where "Approach" comes from.

Not sure how we could have expected more than the best defensive CFer in mlb, that's a 30-30 guy with a 123 ops+. Personally I feel thankful for what we have as opposed to disappointed about it. I also believe he has an approach, it happens to be quite aggressive. I don't believe coaches have issues with him. They are there to assist him with the type of hitter he is. They aren't there to change him into a different type of hitter
