OT: 2026 Open Golf Draft Contest & chat
The US Open draft worked pretty well in the end — everyone enjoyed having unique players and a proper draft order, of sorts....
So I've stuck with a similar idea for The Open at Birkdale next week, and this time we’ve got a full week to get it organised.
Draft Order (based on last year's Majors rankings):
1) Bil522
2) TLO Idaho
3) Xpert DBA
4) maoling
5) baller
6) mostonmike
7) D-Train
8) rockycola
9) Sibelius Hindemith
10) Walla Walla Dawg II
11) desbcoach
12) N.E. Others
(The rankings calculator is shown on the graphic for transparency.)
How the Draft Works
Simple stuff:
Pick one player from each group, following the draft order.
- Bil picks his 5 players
- Then TLO picks his 5
- Then Xpert DBA
- And so on down the list
Everyone ends up with five unique players.
Scoring Rules
- Your best 3 scorers will count for your final total.
- You must have at least 3 players make the cut to stay in contention.
- A 6th player will be allocated at the end of the draft. This allocation happens in reverse order of the initial draft (meaning desb or WWD gets the first player from the remaining pool).
Targets & Deadlines
To keep things moving smoothly:
- Bil, TLO, Xpert DBA → please complete picks by Friday
- maoling, baller, myself→ aim for Sunday
- D-Train, rockycola, SH → aim for Tuesday
- WWDII, desbcoach → Wednesday is the final day (time-zone buffer)
If we get ahead of schedule, even better.
If you are away or missing?
- You can pre-submit your choices if you want saying "1st pick" and "2nd pick" preferences for each group if you want. That works quite well if you are next in-line.
- If we get an absentee - I might have to make decisions to keep the line moving. I will probably bump you down 1 place if you take more than a day or so to pick or allocate if you take 2 or more days. Obviously I won't need to make any calls until around Friday if Bil hasn't got his choices in,,,,
Previous Winners:
2023 Walla Walla Dawg II
2024 D-train
2025 Bil522
At the US Open, 6th pick in the draft won and 8th pick who was just allocated their squad finished 2nd

.
Can't believe its the fourth year of this contest.

Re: OT: 2026 Open Golf Draft Contest - Bil & xpertDBA check in
Cheers TLO. I know Bill’s health isn’t always in the best shape. So let’s give him until midnight tonight (Fri) PDT.
Since you are thinking McIlroy for your first pick, it's safe to say Bil would take Scheffler. Therefore, if I set a hard deadline of midnight Fri PDT for Bil, I can allocate him Scottie, lock in McIlroy for you, and move the line on to Xpert dba.
Bil effectively takes the priority pick but moves down to 3rd. If he’s not been in touch by the time Xpert has selected, I can allocate him the rest of his team, but his squad will already feature the obvious number 1 draft pick.
Xpert here is what you need to do:
Hang on until midnight tonight Fri PDT.
I will have updated the list by then and you can cleanly pick from there.
Can you aim for about 4pm PDT Saturday to get yours in, but the England game will be happening so there will be inevitable additional time for you if you want it.

Scheffler failed to make the cut in the Genesis Scottish open yesterday after 78 consecutive tournaments where he made the cut.
Re: OT: 2026 Open Golf Draft Contest - Bil & xpertDBA check in
A little out of touch so far this summer on board happenings and tourneys. In between hand surgeries and a death in the family. Thanks for putting together another tournament! Am I still on deck or at the plate yet? And I can only pick players from the individuals column tiers who have not already been selected, yes?

Sorry to hear about the family loss - I know when people drop off the board for a bit its probably due to something serious. I bet the whole board wishes you well.maoling wrote: ↑Sat Jul 11, 2026 4:11 pmA little out of touch so far this summer on board happenings and tourneys.
