Angry Mariners Fan on X wrote:This Mariners season has been very emotionally draining - moreso than years past - and I think I finally figured out why.

I think reaching the ALCS last year in a way raised our expectations for what the team can - and should - be.

Instead, not only did we get a baseball team that lacks focus on a nightly basis and doesn’t know the fundamentals, but we also got a FO that for the fourth(!) year in a row voluntarily put their pencils down a bat short which has resulted in us once again starving ourselves for run production. Yeah, injuries and underperformance are part of it as well, but we’re also regularly running out players who should never be full-time players (Raley, Rivas, Robles, Weston Wilson, Michael Rucker).

This type of roster construction has become a staple of Jerry Dipoto’s archaic footprint, and after four years of the exact same issues plaguing this team, it becomes massively tiresome. And I think that’s why us fans are just SO over it and frustrated with the output that we’ve gotten.

I can only speak for myself, but I couldn’t care less that this team is currently in 1st place. It’s an unwatchable product five out of the seven nights a week. And what compounds it is I KNOW we deserve better, but instead we’re being gaslit by not only the team itself, but by specific media members who for some reason have targeted the fans instead of sympathizing with us. And that’s unacceptable. We’re the only fanbase to have never experienced a World Series game. So whatever argument you have that implies we should have patience is wrong. Period stop. Patience has officially run out, and you have no leg to stand on to tell us that we’re being unreasonable.

This trade deadline should be Jerry’s last chance. It won’t be, but it should be. We’re tired of being starved for offense, and as last year showed, we deserve better.

There's been some really bad luck too. Four regulars (Cal, JP, Naylor and Julio) aren't hitting anywhere close to projections and in Cal's case he's on pace for the worst drop-off in MLB history. And Rivas magically went from being a decent utility player to probably the worst player in the entire league.

But most of it has been horrible mistakes by the front office.

One other regular (Donovan) can't even take the field and in retrospect we should've pursued Marte.

We went out and got Refsnyder who while nobody could have seen him having the worst season in franchise history, it's no surprise that he went the same way as the other washed up right-handed hitting "specialists" that the front office keeps falling for.

Also, our other right-hand "pop" consists of Garver who never should have been signed in the first place let alone brought back to suck for a third season, and Robles who sold us a Bill Of Goods on that half-season and since then has sucked even worse than he did for the Gnats.

12th most wins out of 30 teams. My point is people just like to complain. I think it's funny when people complain about a sports team as if they are owed something. Nobody is forcing you to root for the Mariners. Plus, who really cares? Am I jumping up and down today cuz the Seahawks won the Bowl? Nope!

Ha, 3 different discussions between us in 3 threads at the same time. We should "get a room"

You are spot on - and I suppose nothing matters in the world at all - we all die eventually. You only live once so try and enjoy it a bit more.

Well that's the thing, if you're all bent out of shape cuz the GM isn't spending more money, then you got problems.

Sports is a losing proposition from the jump. 29 teams will not win the WS, and for the team that does win, they get to reign on top for a couple months and then it's a new season and everyone focuses on that one. It's really not worth getting all worked up over. But, it's a good thing that people do, because it would be kind of boring to watch with a stadium full of indifferent observers.
