Update on the Ford vs. Ferrari trade

Post by D-train » Sun Aug 16, 2026 2:31 pm

With Harry getting called up to the Nats and Cal turning into a rotten pumpkin and Ferrer regressing to what he has always been this trade now looks idiotic on Jerry's part.

Still only 55 PAs for Harry Ford but he has a .774 OPS and positive D metrics. 0.5 fWAR which projects to over 5 WAR for a full season. But we didn't need him.

btw Ferrer has put up exactly 0.0 fWAR this season. 😬

Ford has taken the lead in the battle of Ford vs. Ferrari.

No idea why we went so far out of our way to trade for a guy like Ferrer. You are what the back of your bubble gum card says you are, and his card says "THIS GUY KINDA SUCKS". And sure enough, he kinda sucks.

Dipoto somehow must have come to the conclusion that Ford's only future value would come from catching and hence would not be able to contribute with the Mariners what with Cal hitting home runs every 10 PAs and so forth.

All the same, you should be able to get more than a mediocre lefty reliever for a decent prospect at catcher.

Heres a guy that attributes Cals collapae to the postition. Big production swings arent so uncommon for catchers. Even after the collapse do you consider taking him off catcher? I still dont think hed ever go for it.

Hes got a number of examples of catchers following up great seasons with clunkers
Every situation is different, of course, but in 1986 Hall of Fame catcher Carlton Fisk had -1.7 WAR for the White Sox (491 plate appearances, 14 HR, 63 RBI). The year before, Pudge had a 3.3 WAR while hitting 37 HR, 107 RBI for the ChiSox. And the year after, Fisk rebounded with a 23 HR season and a 3.1 WAR in 1987.

Cal's cheeks look a bit rounder this year. Spent the offseason shooting commercials..

I don't have much sympathy for him.

*I'm talking about his face cheeks you perverts.

Wow missed that one!

I'd trade Cal for her straight across right now.

I chatted with her a few years ago. Very nice young woman. I thought she might be almost 6 ft tall so I asked her her height. "only" 5'8".

I said, "Good, I have 3 inches on you so it won't be awkward when I fantasize about you" She LOLed. :)
