It appears we both fell for some high tech special effect trickery! You are absolutely right. I think I thought it just landed on his back while I was watching the ball, fielder's glove, the umpire and if the runner's hand stay on the bag. I just went back and looked again."Related Images" - click on the second one and it DOES show the helmet hitting him on the back. I knew I saw it that way.
