Thinks that games in May when we still have at least a small chance at the playoffs are less important than games in Aug and Sept. when the season is basically over and we are just playing out the string.

Basically this is tantamount to world class marathoners walking the first 10 miles of the Boston Marathon so they are well rested to sprint the last 100 yards.

I don't think they give a crap about the playoffs. And they are not going to use him to try and make the playoffs. Go look what I posted about the Rays. I wager the Rays would use Gilbert the same as the Mariners, if not even more conservatively. The difference is they have the pitching depth to compete for the pennant. That's the difference between the two

So its some how better for a starter to pitch 4 inning starts from mid May to Sept than pitch 5-7 inning starts like a normal fucking starter from mid May through July before shutting him down so he can tell Mom Dad and his little sister and Aunt Gertrude that he pitched a "complete" season??? Hilarious.

Might have bought excuse they wanted to get him out of there with taste of success but doubt very much that an inning today would affect an inning in Sept. would buy they have a hard cap of 120 inning (whatever it is) that they don’t plan on exceeding

I don't know if it's hilarious or not but I believe it's what he is getting at. You can call it liberalism if you want, all I am trying to do is attempt to point out what they have made perfectly fucking clear about how they go about managing their pitching. If there is anything more obvious about it than they want them to pitch an entire season rather than be shut down in September I'd like to hear it

I don't know how liberal it is, guess you could call it progressive perhaps. I think what it is, the Mariners are employing 21st century strategy, they suck, so it must be because they don't go about things like a team from the 50s. The deal is, I think if you look at who was in last year's WS they use some pretty liberal approaches themselves. And I'm including the dodgers. I haven't followed them closely. But I know in the past they have been intent on limiting innings.

What I think you guys are prone to do is attempt to fold the Mariners failings into your general view of the world. You want everything to go back to some sort of Leave it to Beaver fantasy from your youth. The Mariners inability to adapt to modem baseball strategy fits the model. But think how condficted things would be if you lived in Tampa lol ..
