As opposed to what the Mariners turned around and reinvested that money into?

The money makes zero difference to me when they didn't use it to improve the team in any other way.

Sure could have used an extra win or two the last couple years though :idea:

Payroll is currently ~$60M lower than when the trade was made. So yes, be very happy for our owners who can now afford to take an extra 60,000 vacations to Oceans shores every year with their savings.

Sure but I doubt that's what the money is being used for. I wouldn't mistake risk aversion for greed

Obviously there are a lot of factors in play, and I have made it clear that IMO, no one wants to come here. BUT, when you have the longest playoff draught in North America, you made moves the year before that seemed to have more eyes towards the future than a present that had you one game out of the playoffs AND you made some pretty big promises in the off season? You might want to not be bottom half of the league in payroll.

Sure, I agree but I don't think it's because of owners syphoning off profits.
