Did I read somewhere that even if he picks up his option we can non-tender him or something and allow him to become a F/A? I've never been great with the contractual caveats.

Well that number isn't right. It's $15.2m for our current obligations (Marco, Hanny, Flexen and White), not $17 and would be 33 for Seager and Kuch if they stay on their option numbers. So that gets you to 48, maybe 49 with the change in incentives and what not. Our arb raises probably will come in around $22m so I'd say 37, maybe $40m if Seager and Kuch are walkingD-train wrote: ↑Fri Oct 08, 2021 6:54 pmI am seeing $52M but that includes $35M for Seager/KK so that leaves $17M but that assumes $0 for all other current controlled players.Coeurd’Alene J wrote: ↑Fri Oct 08, 2021 6:04 pmI think we are around $25M and then add in Kuichi How exactly are we leaving Kuich out of this. Not sure if you did or where you may have read it, but that isn't accurate. He's signed a major-league contract which guarantees him his full deal w/o having to worry about being "non-tendered." If Kikuchi sees his club option waived by the M's then decides to pick up his single-season option at $14m rather than test the market, he's guaranteed that $14m. Now, the M's could decide to hold him off their 26-man roster, but he'd have to accept a demotion to AAA I believe and meanwhile he still gets his $14mSeattleSportsRUs wrote: ↑Fri Oct 08, 2021 7:07 pmDid I read somewhere that even if he picks up his option we can non-tender him or something and allow him to become a F/A? No, then it wouldn't even be a player option. It would a team only option.SeattleSportsRUs wrote: ↑Fri Oct 08, 2021 7:07 pmDid I read somewhere that even if he picks up his option we can non-tender him or something and allow him to become a F/A? I've never been great with the contractual caveats.

Trade for and extend JRam. Sign a TOR arm. Sign Schwarber to a 1-year deal.
Adds about $45 to $50 million to 2022 payroll.
Go after Ohtani in 2023.

I really can't see the M's asking KK to return. OK, well I can see it, but they would be really stupid to do so...Oh, wait.
And if they don't re-up KK, would he really want to come back under those conditions knowing the club doesn't want him to return?

Well if I had made ~$100M playing baseball, and my team made it clear that they no desired my services I wouldn't even consider coming back but give that he agreed to have the player option in the contract I assume he might use it.
