Payroll

Post by bpj » Tue Nov 23, 2021 6:38 am

The Mariners are sitting at $50 Million.

If they added $100M in salary, they would still be ranked 11th in MLB.

MLB average is $130M.

Somebody explain why asking them to have a near-top-10 payroll with the potential of joining the top 10 going forward is too much to ask when we're supposedly "in our window" with glaring, obvious holes on the roster?

And there is talk about waiting until the following season to fill some of the holes, why exactly? To waste another year before they're all filled?

Is it just low expectations like it looks?

There is no valid reason why the Mariners couldn't add $100M in salary this year to get to $150M and follow it up by actually joining the Top 10 in 2023 and beyond by making another move or two and going to $180M.

You all let them pocket that cash for the last few years expecting them to use it, well the time has come.

Yet all I hear is more apologist nonsense, letting them off the hook like they're doing the fanbase a solid by going to $100M, or even $130.

No, if they went to $150M, they could still add on. Fans should stop doing their bidding by having low expectations.

They have 6 holes, they should fill them with the best players they can get their hands on. Everything should be on the table.

Spending doesn't always fix everything, but at this juncture, it's exactly what they need to do because there is an abundance of talent available with limited suitors and we have glaring, obvious holes on the roster NOW.

And don't use the youngsters as the excuse. Haniger leaves the following season, the kids can fight for his spot. Trade Marco or Flexen if Kirby forces his way up. No excuse not to fill holes.

Saying they can't fill all the holes this off season when they refused to fill ANY last off season is a pretty weak argument without a doubt.

Let’s hope Gerald is convincing the top free agents to play for us today.......The silence is like a Seager contract extension

what exactly is intriguing about it?
After Twitter-famous Mariners fan Joe Veyera tweeted a tongue-in-cheek request for the team to make a free agent signing sooner rather than later, Mariners VP of Marketing Kevin Martinez chimed in with an intriguing response:

The VP of marketing tweets a goofball tagline and everybody gets excited for some reason. Classic Mariner fan base

Now that DeSclafani is off the board, the ONLY pitchers that I've heard Seattle tied to is possibly Tyler Anderson coming back. Other than that, not a peep. And thats only because Servais said that, "I'd like to see that back him back here next year."

Yes, they've been hoarding it for a while. Put the money back on the field.
