This is what the Mariners do with position prospects.
Yeah and then they have the Pitching prospects throw 3 innings a start about 10 stars a season....
I wonder if that will be the plan moving forwards or if it was because nobody pitched in 2020?

There were no games but Summer camp opened and I don't believe ended until late Sept. They could have thrown plenty of innings.

There's a reason St. Louis has produced more WS series championships than anyone but the Yankees.
They have won the second most championships because their franchise has been around for 140 years and they were good in the 30's and 40's when there were only 16 teams. They are certainly an above average franchise that makes the Playoffs a ton but they tend to choke once they get there. They have won just 2 World Series in the last 40 years. Same number as Kansas City, Minnesota, Toronto, and Miami. The Cardinals current Management group hasn't won any.
They are always contenders.. they have not finished in last place in the National League since 1918, by far the longest streak in the NL. Like the Yankees and Dodgers, the Cardinals have never lost 100 games in a season since World War I. The Cardinals failed to reach the World Series in the 1950s, 1970s, and 1990s, but were regularly a competitive team in each of these decades.

Since we last made the playoffs they have made the playoffs 13 times, played in 9 NLCS and 4 WS winning 2 of them. Not sure I would call that choking. I will defer to them regarding how best to develop minor leaguers over your favorite GM. ;)

It seems crazy to me that they didn't try to build up innings more than they did, but what do I know? The M's seem to be pretty well-respected around the game for pitching development, so at the very least I'm sure it's something they put a lot of thought into.

Yeah I'm sure they did but I would like to see the science behind the belief that someone that throws 150 innings in a season and then takes 4.5 months off is more likely to be prepared to throw 150 innings the following season than someone that throws 75 innings the prior season. I obviously get the building up part but common sense tells me that would all be lost in the off season and the pitcher that actually only threw the 75 innings would be in better shape to throw 150 the following season due to less stress on his arm the prior season.

I think they all just say it enough times and everyone starts believing it, nodding in agreement afraid to question the conventional thinking. And then they check around baseball and say, SEE! Some other team out of 30 is thinking about a 6 man rotation too! Best to be cautious and wise. lol
