I wonder if that will be the plan moving forwards or if it was because nobody pitched in 2020?

They are always contenders.. they have not finished in last place in the National League since 1918, by far the longest streak in the NL. Like the Yankees and Dodgers, the Cardinals have never lost 100 games in a season since World War I. The Cardinals failed to reach the World Series in the 1950s, 1970s, and 1990s, but were regularly a competitive team in each of these decades.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 12:02 amThey have won the second most championships because their franchise has been around for 140 years and they were good in the 30's and 40's when there were only 16 teams. They are certainly an above average franchise that makes the Playoffs a ton but they tend to choke once they get there. They have won just 2 World Series in the last 40 years. Same number as Kansas City, Minnesota, Toronto, and Miami. The Cardinals current Management group hasn't won any.AT Funchal-Madeira wrote: ↑Tue Jan 18, 2022 8:05 pmThere's a reason St. Louis has produced more WS series championships than anyone but the Yankees.
Since we last made the playoffs they have made the playoffs 13 times, played in 9 NLCS and 4 WS winning 2 of them. Not sure I would call that choking. I will defer to them regarding how best to develop minor leaguers over your favorite GM.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 12:02 amThey have won the second most championships because their franchise has been around for 140 years and they were good in the 30's and 40's when there were only 16 teams. It seems crazy to me that they didn't try to build up innings more than they did, but what do I know? The M's seem to be pretty well-respected around the game for pitching development, so at the very least I'm sure it's something they put a lot of thought into.
