Sodo finally came up with a trade that makes sense.
Winker checks all of the boxes for us.
OFer: Check
LH Bat: Check
Power Bat: Check
High OBP guy: Check
Control the zone: Check 11% BB rate/15% K rate
More than one year of control: Check
In his prime: Check
2021: .305/.394/.556/.949

Winker is basically a LH Suzuki with less D but a proven MLB bat. Essentially Suzuki insurance if he goes elsewhere. He is obviously also perfect to DH vs. tough RH starters.

Probably more of a Kyle Schwarber than a Suzuki so dipoto won't be interested. Was gonna say, if Frazier got moved off 2nd base they could play him in left field.
Did you see this, in depth piece on Winker

Yeah, good point. JD will see that .900+ OPS and and say NO Thank you!

I hadn't. Thanks again.
Winker is generally regarded as a better defender than either Castellanos or Kyle Schwarber, and most pundits expect both those players to command weighty contracts in free agency. Winker has been a better defender and better hitter than both over the past two seasons. There are surely teams that would rather part with prospects to acquire two years of Winker than pay annual salaries near (or in excess of) $20MM for Schwarber and Castellanos.

Think I misread that, thought he wasn't seen as good a defender as schwarber

Your statement is still accurate. Suzuki is known as a good OFer. Here is Schwarber, Castellanos and Winker's D with Haniger for reference:

Yeah, probably more likely to see Frazier in left field for the Mariners than Winker

This trade makes too much sense for JD to fathom. We are so small ball it's scary. To gamble on KL staying healthy, JK blossoming and Torrens and Toro to turn into power guys is wishful thinking. France will be better but with our lineup I think teams are going to pitch around him. The bats are out there whether via free agency or trade and we have the resources to make it happen. I just can't help thinking JD's ego is going to get in the way of his common sense.
