Robert Perez Jr.

Milkar Perez is interesting too. He seems to have 80-grade pitch recognition but is apparently so reluctant to swing that he almost never hits. It's weird for a kid from the island.
What about his K rate do you like? Seems he strikes out more than average.

Milkar seems to be great discipline and good defense. Will he hit enough is the question
Perez's k-rate is up to 25%, which is okay for the level but not outstanding. But a few weeks ago I ran the numbers for the whole team and he was at 21% I believe, and at that moment in time was about 5 percentage points below most of the rest of the team, that were all striking out like crazy. But I should have known not to trust small sample size like that without going back and checking.
It was pretty bad last year. The Mariners minors Twitter site said they wanted him to improve his plate discipline before being promoted to high A. And he's improved it and proven to be too good for that league

Evan White is 0-6 w. 5 K's.

Glad he's changed.

JK hit a HR and was 2-5 but three more Ks. 9 Ks in three games.........in AAA.
He's going to be down there awhile. I think he needs to hire a sports shrink.
The speculation with the Baseball Prospectus guys is that Kelenic can't pick up spin on breaking balls, especially low in the zone. One piece of evidence they trot out is that literally every report they had on him in the minors mentioned an unusual amount of swing and miss on breaking balls low in the zone, but everyone (including them) ignored that issue because his hit tool overall was thought to be so strong. What's less clear is if this is in fact the underlying problem, can it be fixed or at least mitigated to a sufficient extent?

I DO NOT believe for one second that JK just needs a mental breather and to start having fun again. I think that is the very definition of spin from the Mariners.
This is one of the best posts I have read on this forum.

Ponce de Leon struck out the first 9 batters, ended up with 12Ks, no runs in 5 IP.

Kingsbury pitched 5 in, 1H, 3BB, 8K, no runs in 5IP.

Seems Kelenic had a nice game. 3 for 5 with a double. 2 K's again though.

I would offer him a $1 million bonus if he could successfully not K once over a 10-game span.

Well he didn't quite make it. Struck out 3 more times yesterday and now has 15Ks in 29 PAs. Over a 50% K rate..........in AAA. That is worse than Garreth Morgan.

Looks like Morgan is out of baseball. Finished with 840Ks in 459 games. One of Jack Zs RH power hitter fetish guys. 2nd round pick in 2014.

Edwin Arroyo and Bryce Miller are shining so far. And now Emerson Hancock is back on the hill, taking the ball every 5th day. So we got that going for us, which is nice
