I'd love for Santana to replicate his Oye Como Va days, but I'd certainly settle for Smooth.

And this move certainly suggests to me that there will be no return of France and no return of Lewis any time soon.
No, Santana just moves to DH or France DHs until he is 100%. Lewis is toast but we already knew that. And they actually have a guy DHing that can actually hit finally. What a concept.

Before anyone bitches about his .690 OPS... he's had a torrid June slashing .357/.478/.554/1.032 with 5 doubles, 2 homers, 11 RBI, 13 walks and just 7 K's.
Wish it was Bell but his June is encouraging.
Bell would be good but Santana is cheaper and hopefully France won't be out long.

Bell is cheaper $10M vs. $10.5M but now season Jerry asked for and got KC to pay some of his salary. Nats probably wouldn't do that so we got the lesser player because we were too cheap to add full salary.

Could be. I'm hoping Haniger makes it back the week before the ASB, as a DH.

Maybe he saying cheaper in terms of prospect return. Who knows what Nats are asking for Bell.

Giants gave up #9 and #30 from their 11th ranked farm for Kris Bryant but that was at the deadline. Maybe the Nats are holding out for more but a 1B/DH rental can't be worth a top 100 prospect and I think they could get more for 3 months of him instead of two months of him but who knows.

My concern with Santana is that he goes back to sucking like he did in April and May once he puts on an M's jersey. Bell has be very consistent this season.

Don't like this deal. I think Santana is done. It's just another Upton situation.

I am not going to cry over Fleming but one thing is undeniable. They cared more about cash than Fleming. If they would have been willing to pay his entire salary they could have kept Fleming. Just another glimpse into the mindset of this org.
