To stand pat or not to stand pat, that is the Q

This team is locked and loaded with more help coming (Lewis, Haniger, Dollard, potentially Hancock, potentially Campbell).

It is very, very good. My one concern is if Raleigh goes down, we have Luis Torrens as your everyday catcher with now Brian O'Keefe as your backup. That's a problem. I bet we'd go in a tailspin if Torrens is catching every day.

So pray to God that doesn't happen. Maybe we can trade for a more legit backup and send Torrens packing. Other than that, I really like this club with a healthy K-Lew and Hanny. Can't wait to start working them into the team. Drop Upton and Toro to make room. And when Kirby is added, drop Brash back down.

That's a nice 26 right there. I would make a move for batter backup C, maybe a closer if one is out there.

Thoughts?

Backup catching is a good idea.
I would like front line pitching, Castillo is my choice but I expect someone more like Quintana. He could do long relief and left handed reliever too.

Am hoping for Castillo also, but I think we'll probably get outbid by the Dodgers or Red Sox given Sale's injury today.

Also, if Haniger is not getting close, we still need a thumper for the middle of the lineup. Don't have any particular names in mind. I seriously doubt Soto would be realistic.

I think we need a left handed relief specialist. We can easily get into some late inning situations where we need a better arm against left handed bats. Borucki has improved but doesn't appear to have the breaking ball that's needed. I hope I'm wrong but Hanniger and Lewis are downright scary when it comes to injuries. I agree big time on the catching. Help is attainable in each of those areas without having to give up Soto like packages.

The issue is their 3rd string catcher? How does Torrens rate to other 3rd string catchers around MLB?

How many contending baseball teams stand pat and only replace their backup catcher at the deadline?

This just isn't realistic talk. It actually makes my head hurt.

Dipoto should be scouring the ends of the earth for significant upgrades or he's not doing his job. If there was ever a deadline to go for it, it's this one... and you hope they go w. Taylor Dollard or Emerson Hancock to supplant the pitching staff in a playoff run? Jesus.

That is about where I am at:\\

Right now with Haniger, Lewis, Taylor OTW
The two holes have been
Non Cal Catchers and 2B

2B could be keeping Santana 130 OPS+ at 1B and sending France to 2B, Or Haggarty 137 OPS+, Or Moore 106 OPS+, or Frazier 78 OPS+ are all better than seeing Toro on the field or in the box.

Catcher on the other hand Murphy is out for the year and Ford is years away. luis sucks.
Murphy still has a sky high value 59.1 M on the calc.
Tigers have a decent target 2021 OPS+ 102, 2022 OPS+ 109 ///Trade values has him at 4.9M,,, 3 WAR the last 2 years // CS% is high
Contreras value 9.5 M just a rental with a 130 OPS+

Add a 130 OPS+ bat for
Deloach 5.9M #10
Stoudt 4.6M #6
Torrens 0
then maybe a Juan Then or a sam Carlson ( people in the 20-30 range)

I'd love to grab Jonah Heim as our counter-part to Cal. Great behind the dish, and can rake from the left side. Would be a lethal 1-2 behind the plate.

Dipoto a few days ago, looking for pitching
“Fingers crossed, we have been very healthy on the pitching end, especially in the starting rotation,” Dipoto said. “We’re doing a lot of work on the market right now to try to determine if there is an opportunity to add to our staff, to add that arm that maybe relieves some of the pressure that many of the other guys are carrying right now, or innings load that they’re carrying. That’s probably the one obvious thing we can look at.”

Ugh - that translates to - We're looking for a guy like Flexen that we can get for cheap that will eat innings so we can go to a 6-man rotation. Not an elite arm like Castillo that will make a difference, but another arm to throw in there to just keep things going. Not that I have anything against Flexen as I think he's doing a great job but if we're looking to trade for an arm I think we'd all like to dream we'd get one that matters and not just another average joe arm to throw into the mix just to "relieve some pressure."
