Meet Matt Brash M's Reliever
Meet Matt Brash M's Reliever
Matt Brash as a BP guy.
.292 BABIP against yet: .175 .298 .175 .473 Batting line against and a 1.54 ERA and 2.17 FIP?
WTF
That is a SSS for sure, 11.2 innings out of the BP. But the usage rate over his time in the BP equates to a 72 inning /162 pace. He obviously has the confidence of the team, and for good reason.
Our BP
Sewald 2.36 ERA 160 ERA+
Murfee 2.2 171 ERA+
Munoz 2.8 135 ERA+
Swanson 1 365 ERA+
Brash 1.5 280ish ERA+
Festa 110 ERA+
Bernardino 114 ERA+
And add to that stack: Ken Giles is expected back soon. Oh and Diego C.
I have seen Festa and he looks pretty good. He is no Brash-Munoz type but he is good enough.
I have no idea about the new guy.
Giles has 4 rock star years out of 6 (319, 214, 178, and 244<--2019 last healthy season)
the other 2 91 and 96 ERA+
The guys above has Nintendo pitches
The guy below does as well
Diego
all years low 129 ERA+ to 249 ERA+
With those 2 guys back we could be hitting the stretch with 7 guys you could call things like closers, set-up, Firemen, etc.
And coming into the game and facing a playoff team's 2-3-4 with a runner on is just as important as nailing down the 9th facing the 9-1-2-.
The BP is strong and appears to be getting stronger. What say you?

And perhaps now he is a starter too, comes down to his control doesn't it?

Re: Meet Matt Brash M's Reliever
If Brash could sustain his effectiveness for a full start, like he has out of the pen, I'm starting him Game 2 of the Playoffs behind Castillo for whoever we are facing! You can bet you're ass!Donn Beach wrote: ↑Thu Aug 11, 2022 8:13 amAnd perhaps now he is a starter too, comes down to his control doesn't it?

Re: Meet Matt Brash M's Reliever
Brought it up in the other thread, he goes through the minor leagues as a starter, begins the season in the ML rotation. Starts five games and is sent down again and now is not considered a starter? That seems a little odd to me

Seems very odd but you should never question Jerry.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Thu Aug 11, 2022 1:57 pmBrought it up in the other thread, he goes through the minor leagues as a starter, begins the season in the ML rotation. A lot of players are considered relievers, but are given a chance to start. It gives them more pitches and time to work out, and it's a fairly simple transition to reliever. There was always a question of if Brash would be able to stick as starter.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Thu Aug 11, 2022 1:57 pmBrought it up in the other thread, he goes through the minor leagues as a starter, begins the season in the ML rotation. They have stated that in ST he will be given an opportunity again to start . Also stated he could help team more out of BP this year, not sure the confusionD-train wrote: ↑Thu Aug 11, 2022 2:09 pmSeems very odd but you should never question Jerry.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Thu Aug 11, 2022 1:57 pmBrought it up in the other thread, he goes through the minor leagues as a starter, begins the season in the ML rotation. Sure, I'm saying all the development as a starter that leads to making the opening day roster. And then five starts to give up on it?Juliooooo wrote: ↑Thu Aug 11, 2022 2:22 pmA lot of players are considered relievers, but are given a chance to start. We don't know for sure they gave up on it though.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Thu Aug 11, 2022 3:51 pmSure, I'm saying all the development as a starter that leads to making the opening day roster.
