Yep, at one time there were some people playing fantasy baseball, wanting the M's lineup a certain way so that their player would get more runs, not because they thought it would result in more wins.
Who was that?
I rember it was a long time ago, and there were people on the ST forum talking about runs a player had (not Ichiro).

It's because they don't need him, they have a solid bullpen without it's the exact opposite of what you claim dipoto does, hang on to players for no other reason than being stubborn
. "It's a serious injury he was trying to come back from. It was a little bit of a gamble on our side that we could get him back, and you never know how bullpens are going to work out,'' Seattle manager Scott Servais said.

Servais said the Mariners have gotten bullpen contributions from a number of players they weren't counting on ahead of this season.

"A lot of guys have stepped up and done a great job,'' Servais said. "Opportunity-wise, maybe not there, the opportunity that Ken was looking for. ... He wants to pitch in the big leagues, and we just don't have that opportunity for him.''

So can any contender just sign him for league minimum...?

That doesn't sound like it will come back to bite us at all.
