In March 2021 I paid the league minimum for Giles in my keeper fantasy league in hopes that the veteran righthander would be the Seattle closer in 2022. Giles was never activated during his nearly 17 months on my fantasy team.

Giles' removal from IL today forced me to drop a player from my fantasy roster. Instead of Giles I chose to jettison the long-term contract of Jarred Kelenic because I still harbor hope that another team will pick up Giles as a closer candidate. My team will be docked $4 from its 2023 budget because Kelenic's premature departure.

I played two years of fantasy football, winning in my rookie 1997 season with Steve Young, Brad Johnson, Terrell Davis, Marshall Faulk, Joey Galloway, Cris Carter, Bert Emanuel, Yancey Thigpen and Jason Elam. I had to look up a few of those names. After two seasons I retired to become the office league commissioner for about a decade.
