My favorite thing about this... Mariners listed as "tough opponents."

Mathers are now the first wildcard. 1/2 gashes ahead of Torronto. Toronto and Baltimore are currently playing a series, so win the next 2 and you will get some ground on 1 or both of those teams.

Most unfortunate thing about the seeing now, is it looks like the Astros will get the 1 seed. Mathers will face them in the ALDS of they get the 4/5 seed and win the wildcard round.
I wouldn't worry about it. The Astros might even rest their starters in the final series to avoid facing the Mariners.
At this rate, the Astros may have a 10 game lead on the Yankees by then. It would be nice if the Yankees got back on track to give the Mariners some extra breathing room right now though.

Another positive note: Mariners went on the 14 game winning streak, had tough times shortly, but are still 7-3 in the last 10.

This is better than we needed.

At the rate the M's were winning on their 14 game winning streak, they were going to overtake the Astros. If the M's breeze past the WC series, anything can happen.

Agreed. It's well established the Mariners can win a series against any team. Good thing Angels won't be three, because they seem to be kryptonite.

Astros already overtook the Yankees, have the easier schedule and are playing better. They will likely be the #1 seed. M's more likely to be the 4/5 seed and will end up being seeded to play Astros in round 2. Not a big deal, but I'd rather face the Yankees than Astros in round 2 if M's manage to make the playoffs then win round 1, obviously.

ANd M's only gained 2-3 games on the Astros during their 14 game win streak, so it never actually looked like the M's were going to overcome the Astros.

The M's are 31-32 against teams with a +.500 record this season, even with everything that's gone wrong.

They're 31-20 against teams with losing records- which is great news given our remaining schedule. That's a .608 winning percentage.

Now that they have everyone back if they could win out the rest of their games at that pace they would go 30-18 and finish with 92 wins.

Sounds hard to pull off, but last season they started slow and entered the all star break with a 48-43 record then finished the second half with a .676 winning percentage at 42-29.

If we can finish the remaining games with a 36-12 record we'll finish with 98 wins. Crazy, but I think they can pull it off if they can keep everybody healthy.

Doesn't look like we will be playing in Toronto after all..... :)

We have a Cake walk the next two weeks and Toronto has a tough two weeks. We should be able to build a 4-5 game lead for the WC1.
