Over his last 6 starts, Marco Gonzales has a 6.69 ERA & opponents are hitting .333 against him.
Another wild stat from this stretch for Marco:
Opposing hitters have an OPS of .947 against him (in 144 ABs). Put in perspective, the only qualifying MLB players with a higher OPS this season:
Aaron Judge (1.085)
Yordan Alvarez (1.030)
Paul Goldschmidt (1.028)
Chris Flexen’s last 6 starts:
2.94 ERA
.213 opponent batting avg.
Marco is turning into a nearly automatic loss. Why are they going with Marco over Flexen? Maybe someone should let the Mariners know they're in a playoff push and EVERY game is important. We can't afford to just give games away every 5 days.

Re: Marco
I really believe that's the main reason. My biggest fear is that should we make the playoffs, they will let him start for the same reasons even though he has clearly lost his effectiveness.
Re: Marco
I am sure Marco thinks he still belongs in the rotation but I am sure he gets that he isn't a top three starter and will be ok not starting in the playoffs.
M's make some crazy moves but that one will but too insane even for them.

Re: Marco
I really wish he would get a conveniant injury and then come back and prove he is healthy in the last game before the post season or some such. I did a deep dive on Marco's slide and he can'r beak 90 MPH with the FB. He was once 93.8. Even worse he doesn't have a great deal of variance between min, average, and max. I remember hearing commentators always commenting about how this pitcher took a little off of that one= more movement. And on other pitches "He put a little extra on that one." Marco is not maximazing his stuff and that is not acceptable because he doesn't have much in the way of "stuff" to begin with.
Re: Marco
The FOX broadcasters today weren't all sunshine and rainbows about Marco like our fluffballs usually are.
They pointed out how the third time through the lineup he gets obliterated.
Opponents batting average by time through the lineup-
1st time through: .240
2nd time through: .266
3rd time through: .338
4th time through: .429
So, yeah, he's not a reliever. The problem is he's not a starter either. Too susceptible to implosion around the 5th inning and beyond.

Re: Marco
Marco needs to have his innings cut back because he sucks the third time through the lineup and Kirby needs to have his innings cut because he is running the risk of being overworked. They should put Flexen back in the rotation and they should piggy back Marco and Kirby. It would basically give the bullpen a day off every 5th day which would be just as beneficial to keeping them fresh as having Flexen operate as a traditional reliever.
