Biggest early season collapse ever?

Post by DavidGee24 » Wed May 08, 2019 6:15 pm

In my lifetime, the biggest one that comes to mind is the 1987 Brewers who won their first 13 in a row, then were 20-3, and then lost 12 in a row to fall to 20-15. While probably nothing will ever top that in regards to how bizarre it is to have a 13-game winning streak and a 12-game losing streak in your first 35 games, going from 13-2 to 19-19 is just about as bad.

I think I'd award the biggest in-season collapses to the 1987 Brewers (start of season), 1964 Phillies (end of season) and 2017 Dodgers (mid-season, a 1-17 stretch in a 104-58 season, how crazy is that?).

How about the Tigers starting 35-5 and then getting swept by us in a 3 games series. lol

I thought I heard something where the M's are 18-5 against teams with losing records, 1-14 against teams with winning records.

This team isn't good - Sure, they're capable of putting some crooked numbers on the board..... but they aren't very good. They might beat a team out for 4th, but I wouldn't be surprised if they lose 90+ games and finish last in the AL West.

They blew it up - we're supposed to suck this year. Go M's.

Good one, I remember those three beatdowns. I don't know how that Tigers team managed to recover from getting pummeled by one of our perennial 74-win teams from the 80s. Also, when the 1987 Brewers were still 20-6 the Mariners went into Milwaukee and smoked them three straight, and the Brewers did not recover. Probably because of their Seattle connection, no matter how far away you move you can't shake that Seattle stink.
