The Official Magic Number Thread
What is a magic number in baseball?
A magic number represents the required number of wins a team needs (or the same combination of losses by its present competitor) to achieve the title or the next playoff spot. Every time a team wins, its magic number drops by one, every time the competition loses the magic number also drops by one. When the magic number against a team reaches zero that team is mathematically eliminated.

Not really worried about the Central Division. Mostly worried about TB, Toronto and Orioles being ahead, but the Orioles and Blue Jays play each other about 10 times I think.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 30, 2022 9:13 pm34 games to go for the M's most teams have 35 or 36 remaining.

We are one of three teams 8 and 2 in our last 10. Wouldn’t you know the other two would be Houston and Tampa!?
Re: The Official Magic Number Thread
Yes, I saw this and as a result TB is with-in 5 of the Yanks and we are still 11 back from Houston. NYC once had the top spotMichael K. wrote: ↑Sat Sep 03, 2022 6:53 pmWe are one of three teams 8 and 2 in our last 10. Wouldn’t you know the other two would be Houston and Tampa!?
Re: The Official Magic Number Thread
With our starting pitching and the lineup coming together, with this bullpen, I think they could finish the season winning 24 of the final 30 and go into the playoffs as a team to beat.
