They are low balling him like they did Cano. Doubt he would be willing to leave a fist full of money on the table just to be a Yankee
The Yankees are probably thrilled they didn't offer Cano anywhere near what we did.
Freddie Freeman got 6/160.
The Yankees offer of 7/210 for Judge is already an overpay. Even after his monster season, anything over that is a Cano-level overpay. If the Dodgers or Red Sox won't pay up its hard to see who's going to offer more than that.

I like that insurance policy about whether he has a serious arm injury. Dipoto's been constructing some smart contracts of late
Re: Breaking: Castillo extended
I like it that his full no-trade clause goes away after 3 years.

Interesting, banning the shift is going to make Castillo suck
https://theanalyst.com/2022/08/who-figu ... is-banned/. It shouldn’t be a surprise to see pitchers like Luis Castillo of the Seattle Mariners, Logan Webb of the San Francisco Giants and Brad Keller of the Kansas City Royals among those who have had the most hits prevented by their team’s shift.
Entering the week, Webb ranks second (58.3%), Castillo sits third (54.2%) and Keller is sixth (51.3%) in highest groundball percentage since the 2020 season.
While it’s difficult to say how many runs these hits would have led to if not prevented, we can tell you that just adding the 33 hits to Castillo’s line bumps his batting average against over the past three seasons from .237 to .260

Re: Breaking: Castillo extended
Terms of their projections, neither him or Ray are actual ones which is probably realistic
.That’s a total of 13.8 WAR over the five seasons, which ZiPS projects as being worth $113.9 million if he were a free agent, and $105.2 million given the arbitration-year discount, so the actual price tag is right in that ballpark. What’s more, when you account for the discount, Castillo’s contract is very comparable to what Ray received from the Mariners for a five-year projection of 14.7 WAR, and what Kevin Gausman received from the Blue Jays (five years, $110 million) for a five-year projection of 16.0 WAR

In 2014 The Yankees missed the Playoffs by 4 games. Cano put up an .836 OPS for the M's while Brian Roberts gave the Yankees a .659 OPS at the 2nd base position. In 2015 They lost the Wildcard game. The Yankees had Rob Refsnyder play 2nd base for them in that game and he went 0-3. In 2016 they missed the playoffs by 5 games. Starlin Castro put up a 1.2 WAR for the Yankees at 2nd base while Cano put up a 7.3 WAR for the M's. In 2017 they lost 4-3 in the ALCS Starlin Castro hit .208 with a .591 OPS in that series.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sun Sep 25, 2022 2:06 pmThey would have been better off giving Cano his money than signing jacoby ellsbury, that was a total bust, Cano would have actually given them production for their money. The end of any long contract is going to look bad. But the Yankees likely would have been significantly better keeping Cano for the first half of that deal.
