After paring down the payroll while developing young players the Seattle Mariners have now handed out three nine-figure contracts over the past 10 months.

This was a "must move" imho.
So glad they did this.

Great news! With what we gave up for him, it had to happen. Didn't think it would happen till after the season but great to have it done now. Seems like a team friendly deal too.

Now how we liking that deal?!

Now how we liking this rotation for next 6 years?!

Told all you curmudgeons about this front office, this ownership. It will spend. The payroll is hiking fast and don't think for a second Jerry isn't going to go hard after O. Now, hopefully, the hitters on the market will recognize what kind of team this is stacking up to be over the next decade w/ Julio locked up, with this rotation... We need those players to recognize what Seattle is building and this and the Julio deal did it.

So who do we want? Who does Jerry set his sights on? Is Judge realistic? Maybe. Is Trea Turner or Xander Bogaerts realistic? Nolan Arenado? Dare to dream M's fans.
This is great news good for our future. As far as Judge goes. I am fairly certain he will remain in pinstripes The Yankees will never allow him to leave. He is worth far more now than when they tried to extend him earlier this season.

If the Yankees didn't want him to leave they should have up their offer mid-season when they were negotiating. I would be surprised if they're going to do it now but who knows

They might have some pressure when Judge passes Maris.

Why would Judge ever want to leave New York? Even if he could get more money somewhere else, he can be a Yankee legend until death, which is probably worth more than another 5 million a year.

1. Maybe he doesn't like how he's been treated in NY. Gave him a joke number of a contract extension and the Yankees made it sound like Judge was in the wrong for turning it down.

2. Maybe he's over playing in NY and wants a change? Not all guys care to be "legends." He doesn't seem like a guy who cares about his legacy as much as he cares about winning.

The Yankees are in a truly weird spot.

They don't have any real help on the horizon with their farm system until probably 2024 and that's only if Volpe, Dominguez and Wells continue to develop. Oswald Peraza is their only reason promotion and he doesn't look like anything special.

They're paying some $100 million to a collection of players who don't produce much of anything anymore - many of which are under contract for many years...

They've been carried by the contributions of guys like Cortez and Carpenter who are far from a guarantee to follow up their performances.

Judge is truly the only player in that lineup past maybe Rizzo who is playing to their contract.

If I'm him I don't want to be anywhere near this aging roster...
