My FA Suggestion

Post by AZOldDawg » Sat Sep 24, 2022 7:08 pm

Believing that Judge is out of reach and JD too stubborn regarding Crawford I would advocate for signing Abreu. That would put a solid constant bay at first base and move France to DH where we maximize his ability to stay healthy. Granted we have other needs but I like two birds with one stone

How much money and how many years should the Mariners offer Jose Abreu, who will be 36 years old on Opening Day 2023?

I like Bell much better than Abreu but wouldn't mind Abreu on a 1-2 year deal if Bell signs elsewhere...

The M's have power RH hitters JRod, Suarez, and France. The LH/switch power hitters are Cal. Maybe Kelenic if he get his act together. I'd rather save the money for a LH/switch power hitter.

I'd love it if they can figure out a way to add Bell and at least one other bat of that quality.

I could see them going with a Winker/Murphy DH next season

Add zero bats: F
Add 1 bat: D
Add 2 bats: C
Add 3 bats: B
Add 4 bats: A

Assumes each bat is a fairly significant upgrade.

I like it, I'm hoping for at least a B-

Wouldn't be hard to upgrade from some of the mendoza lines we are sporting in our lineup now...

I'm assuming it will be a combo of FA signings and trades since we have no immediate help coming from the farm.

This season Jose Abreu has posted an OPS+ of 134, Josh Bell an OPS+ of 130 (including 77 with San Diego) and Ty France an OPS+ of 124.

France has more home runs this year than Abreu, who is six-and-a-half years older, or Bell, who is two years older.

The Mariners are likely to add a bat or two this offseason but fans should temper their expectations.
