The point is that none of those players you listed above should answer the question at LF or DH.

Who they have "right now" should not even be in the equation for either starting spot.

Glad to be rid of Winker and Toro but not excited at all about Wong. Seems like their is a potential for a repeat of what we experienced with Frazier. Frazier in 2021 was at .304/.368/.411. Wong in 2022 was at .251/.339/.430. He hasn't done all that well in the west coast Marine layer ballparks. .529 OPS in 5 games at T-Mobile. .320 OPS in 18 games at Petco. .700 OPS in 25 games at AT&T. He does have pretty much an even home/road split for career OPS so hopefully his bat will at least play on the road.

He had 3.1 WAR in less than 500 PAs. More like a 4 WAR guy for a full season.
Not dissing the trade....but Wong sucked defensively last year and will regress offensively because of T-Mobil
Perry Hill and its not as bad for lefties..
Especially now that they shift is banned.

At The Athletic on November 8 beat reporter Corey Brock (and his Blue Jay counterpart) proposed a trade of Chris Flexen and Penn Murfee to Toronto for Santiago Espinal and Alejandro Melean. Eight days later the Mariners traded Erik Swanson and Adam Macko to the Blue Jays for Teoscar Hernandez.

Today at The Athletic Brock and other writer proposed a trade of Chris Flexen to Milwaukee for Kolten Wong. Later in the day the Mariners traded Jesse Winker and Abraham Toro to the Brewers for Kolten Wong.

Brock has gotten the trade partners right but some traded players wrong.

Guess that also closes the door on Lowe, Anderson too...

They better get a fucking sick left fielder and starting pitcher now.
Go get Bryan Reynolds and Kodai Senga

Unless you want to dangle Kirby or Gilbert, I don't think we have enough fire power to get that trade done. I don't think the Brash/ Ford / Dollard types are going to move the needle enough to tempt the Pirates. Other teams certainly would have more to offer.

DT said it best - this is a basic addition by subtraction.

Look, I know you all are way savvier than I am with stats, but here’s a really basic measure of how well this trade impacts us:

Winker had a WAR of 0.4 and Toro’s was -0.7 so they had a combined WAR of -0.3

Wong’s WAR last season was 2.5

So we just added 2.8 WAR, and we got $1.75M in pocket money.

I know that’s an oversimplification, but there you have it….addition by subtraction!

With the empty roster spot, I would not be surprised to Dipoto take a shot on a reliever in the rule 5 draft

Sure we won the trade but the question is did it move the needle enough. looking at 2nd base specifically we let Frazier walk who had a 0.9 WAR so we really added about 1.6 WAR at 2B. We finished 16 games out and we only have a few spaces where we can add significant WAR. We now have one less open spot where we can plug in an impact bat. We need to be adding more than a couple WAR here and there and this move narrows our window of prospective players who can actually move the needle.
