What would you guys value the tradable comp pic? $7M?
Baseball Trade Values assigns the Mariners' competitive balance draft pick a value of $6.2 million:

Outside of the starting pitching & obviously JRod I don't think anyone is considered untouchable but yes might have to include a 3rd team. Otherwise be prepared to pony up for Mr. Nimmo or Yoshida.

it is an end of 1st Rd pick. But 7M is not a bad starting point. And fk the trade values thing. Ford is undervalued, Hancock, Miller, as well. The thing is it does not matter what the calc says or mlb.com rankings. It matters what Pit. thinks. You've seen how these sales go the trading org says this team has a headliner of player X Your organization would have to give up one of your top 5 to beat it. And basically the team that is willing to give the trading team the most in Pittsburg's valuation wins.

I think 7 M is a bit light for an additional 1st Rd. pick. Hancock has TOR possible projection top of the 1st Rd. pick and he appears to be healthy and performing well up until hitting the wall last year. Ford is another top 100 types, and the pick = a 3rd type 100 type. Reynolds was only a 126 OPS+ 2.9 WAR player in 2022. He has 3 years of control. How much do you really want to give for a guy that should probably not be in center anymore. He was -14 in 2022, and -5 runs above replacement in 2o21 before being 1 and 2 runs above average in his 1st 2 years. The Pirates probably waited a year too long.

I would not want to go and trade Brash or Miller but something like:
JK or TT,
Miller or Hancock,
Ford
Comp pick
plus a couple of top 30 types but not premium ones.

I do like trading away Flexen, and Marco. ANd wrapping those guys into the package. On another site I saw Flex traded to Balt for Santander but maybe we pay 1/2 his salary and make Flex worth 7M or so in value. Flip that as another chip vs the comp pick. Then go get another TOR to win the arms race. Texas just bought one of the best in the game and brought back all star lefty so they have a good top 3.

Here's the guy they should be targeting along with Reynolds- David Bednar.

Hard throwing 97mph closer with a 12.02 K/9, a 2.61 ERA and 4 years left of control. Why do the Pirates need a closer...

Hard to lose Gilbert, but sign a FA to replace him (Rodon, please) and the team would look amazing.

I'll admit I am homer biased. I talked briefly with Gilbert in ST 2019 so have that connection. Also he isn't an FA until 2027 vs. 2026 for Reynolds. Just seems a lot simpler to trade for Bednar and sign Nimmo. I bet Gilbert matches or betters Rodon's WAR and Nimmo had 5.0 WAR in 2022 vs. only 2.9 for Reynolds.

Also I bet the Pirates would want guys less than 2 years service time because they could be right back in the same boat with Gilbert next season as they are with Reynolds now.

Yeah it would be much simpler if Nimmo will sign.

We've signed Ray and extended Castillo in the past year and haven't signed a free agent bat since Nelson Cruz apparently.

So thats easier said than done it seems. Pitchers are obviously willing to be here.

If they can get Judge or Nimmo, they obviously should do that. If they don't...

Some people say they'll want major leaguers to add to O'Neil Cruz, others say they want minor leaguers who are close.

One way or another we could pull it off with our pitching depth, especially if we add a free agent SP.

Got it. btw we gained an extra year of control by starting Gilbert in the minors so he has two years more control than BR. Sorry that seals the deal for me. Not trading him for BR.
