Where do we stand on Kelenic?

Jarred has had about as good of a spring as any one could imagine. My question is has this changed your perception of him and his future with the M's. Personally, I don't put much into spring training numbers. The ball carries like crazy in Arizona and Breaking pitches are notoriously flat in the thin dry air. Pitchers are also focusing on process and tweaking things rather than worrying too much about results. That being said Hitting well in spring training certainly beats the alternative. If nothing else he may have resurrected his status as a prospect a little bit and may have revived some of his trade value.

It's not the numbers in spring training it's approach. It seems he has worked on that. I don't expect him to put up terrific numbers but hopefully not be a disaster. And really even when he was a disaster his power was pretty good, that's something to take into consideration. He might hit .225, but 25+ home runs?

I'm mostly thinking he MIGHT be showing the signs of his potential. Since he doesn't cost the team much, I'd keep him to see if things are finally coming around. The kid has been the victim of the hype surrounding him. Let's see what he's got.

I went with "finally reaching his potential," but I am more inclined to predict "still disappointing for a former top prospect but definitely doesn't suck as bad as he did the last 2 years."

I would be so thrilled if he could hit .225. If he did he would likely be hitting more than 25 home Runs. He has basically had a Season's worth of AB's with 500 Career AB's so far and he has hit 21HR with just 84 Hits. That is exactly 1 HR for every 4 Hits. If he were to hit .225 that would be an extra 28 hits and an extra 7 home runs. Add to that added strength through physical maturation and there is no reason he couldn't be a 35-40 HR guy. He's gotta prove he can hit when the lights come on though.

.225 seems like a low bar but in order to be at .225 right now he would need to have 113 hits in his 500 ABs. He only has 84. That is A LOT more hits.

I believe in poor Jarrod about as much as Bigfoot.
