For all of you that think Mariners are only keeping LaStella because of money, Mariners aren’t paying him anyways

Very possible. Since the Giants are basically paying all of La Stella's salary anyway, the Mariners can take a flier on him as bench depth

Gotcha. It’s still not a big deal. There wasn’t anyone that stepped up and won the job, so they went with the guy on the roster. He won’t be on the roster by mid May unless he produces

They aren't paying all of his salary. that is against MLB rules

The guy said BASICALLY which is accurate. Maybe the kept him since he is a vet and McCoy stopped hitting but I bet if he could get sent down and McCoy was guaranteed the 720k then the outcome would likely be different.

McCoy hit about.725 OPS the last 2 years in AAA as a 25-26 year old. I don’t think they seriously considered him for the roster. Is him not being in the roster really worth spending more than a second of concern?

I wonder if they cut him in May if they only have to pay a part of the minimum salary and the rest reverts back to the Giants?

Hernandez is an interesting signing. He's made some money in his career and has more than 8 years service time. Last year he was moderately useful to the Nationals so maybe not a complete wash at this point. As an injury stash in Tacoma, I'm not sure you could ask for more. He's sort of the Tommy Milone of middle infielders at this point.
