A look at the standings

Post by Pharmabro » Thu May 25, 2023 4:58 am

As you can see we have had some bad luck. The extreme swing in 1-run games that were are losing at an alarming rate. We have a number of players that are way under performing compared to career/last year.

You take
2022 Julio 146 OPS+ vs 2023 Julio 93 OPS+ that is over a 50 OPS+ swing from 1 player and he was the #1 hitter much of the year his drop alone is about 6 points in team OPS+ score. coming in to today they had a 94 OPS+: Julio being 2023 alone would get that to 100 OPS+ at least.

Geno 2022 128 OPS+ vs 2013 89 OPS+: the 39 point drop is worth over 4 OPS+ points for the team. That puts us at 104-105 which is what we finished at last year.

I think more of the slow starters regress to the mean and that means our offense rallies. The current run differential indicates we should be tied with the Yankees for the last wild card as-is.

This team looks like it is primed to rally from several different viewpoints. What do you think?

I know JD reads this board. Go get Goldy!

The Mariners have the 10th best record in the AL, but would have the 5th best record in the NL.

The Mets have a 25-25 record, slightly worse than the M's.

Crazy world...

You have a team that's won 90 games the last two seasons. They didn't do much to improve so it would seem another 90 win season be a realistic goal this season. So a team on a 90 win pace be at around 27 wins at this point, is my math faulty? They are behind that pace but it's not like you're going to fire anybody over it. I doubt any of them are really sweating it. They still see their goal well within reach.

It's not the math that's faulty.

They didn't do much to improve, while other teams did.

Now they're losing to those teams more.

But they kept payroll low and still convinced fans that they "spent on the future", so of course they won't lose their jobs.

This team just seems so uninspiring. They had a chance to capitalize on the momentum of last years playoff run and really turn this town into a baseball town again and instead they have just kind of put out this blah product. It's very frustrating.

Jerry has said it over and over. It's about sustainability not winning it all now. They are perfectly content to be 81-90 win team and never win a world series.

As long as they get a fat contract from Root Sports, they sell a shitload of $200 jerseys and $20 beers, and keep a few asses in seats, they are happy to pocket the profits. They care not a wit about legitimate fans like the ones on this board that want more from a sport team they support that just mediocrity and $20 beers.

Haven't lived locally for 15+ years, so I couldn't remember who owned the broadcast rights.

Last time I was at T-Mobile, it was Safeco, beers were $8 and you could buy and Ichi-roll. :(
