Hey Jerry: Why did the D'Backs and Rangers cross the road?

Because they traded for difference making players. Because they spent to get real, proven players. End of story. It's kind of like Vegas. When you gamble you come up roses once in a while but there's a reason they keep building Casinos.

Such a waste of the last three seasons.

2024 will be year 9 under Dipoto.

.25 Playoff wins per season so far. In that same span the Rays have made the playoffs 5 times, the ALDS twice and the WS once.

Who did they spend on to get real proven players?

From their SBnation Dback blog evaluating their off season. This from the FA section
Section Grade: F
It would be lower, but that’s the lowest it goes. Coming into the offseason, it was estimated by most pundits that the Diamondbacks had between $10-12 million to work with in free agency, with the potential to go slightly higher than that if a true impact talent could be landed. During the winter there were rumours that the Diamondbacks were in on the Dansby Swanson sweepstakes. It’s one thing to sit at the table. It’s another thing entirely to sit at the table and just fold every hand.

D Backs sucked during the regular season and squeaked in due to a weak WC field in the NL. They have got hot/lucky during the playoffs and now my worst fears have been realized and Jerry will point to how you just need to get into the playoffs and then it is a crap shoot so no reason to go all in jeopardizing that precious sustainability.....

Everybody wants to create narratives. They Dbacks have some talent and it's young. I don't think there is much to point at. If the mariners were the Dbacks they would have been in the WS a couple seasons ago. Dipoto needs to make adjustments. The Dbacks analogy has already left the station

That is pretty remarkable, I read a thing about the Phillies home field advantage after they eliminated the Braves, their fans and all that. Historically they have the highest playoffs home field winning percentage in baseball. For the Dbacks to go in there and beat them in a game seven.

Yep shit happens all the time in sports yet people are always shocked by it. How much could have been won betting the 49ers lose to BOTH the Browns and Vikings right after beating the living shit out of the Cowboys 42-10. Huskies with the best offense in the Nation don't score a single offensive TD vs. a 1-5 team at home. Braves AND Dodgers get blasted out of the playoffs. Home team loses ALL 7 games in the ALCS.

Which leads to the age old adage of That is why we play the game, shit happens. AZ and a few teams should make us wonder about our position player development. Pitching appears great, hitting it as much or our drafting doesn’t find the talent
