Frank Howard

Post by ddraig » Tue Oct 31, 2023 2:48 pm

Anyone out there old enough to remember Frank Howard? He dies yesterday at the age of 87. The guy was one of the ultimate power hitters of his day and won a World Series Ring with the Dodgers in 1963. I was 11 that year and in Fifth Grade. The guy played in the 50's, 60's, and 70's. At 6'7", he really was a "towering figure." My guess is that the Rangers will honor his passing sometime during the Series. He played for them in 1972 before retiring with Detroit in 1973.

RIP, Frank.

I saw Frank play against the Pilots in a monster extra inning game I think in 1969. They ran out of beer. Frank played left field in that game and I swear the ground shook when he ran in but that could have been the beer

You think it was an X inning game or you think it was in 1969? lol Pilots only played in 1969 and they played the Senators and Frank 6 times in Seattle but no X inning games.

He coached first base for the M's in 1987-1988 on Dick Williams staff.

Remember a Tigers game on TV Tigers we're down a couple in the ninth. The color guy (Probably Tony Kubek) started talking about how the Tigers were likely to pinch hit, first Kaloni so he could get on base and then Howard so he could hit a home run. Maybe the manager had a tv in the dugout because that is exactly what happened

Was either 68 or 70 as I was doing summer school at the U. Sicks field I think but pre Dome. I think it went 22 innings. I was 22 and bulletproof

The Seattle Pilots only existed for 1 season and it was 1969 and then they moved to Milwaukee and became the Brewers.
