$20M To Spend
$20M To Spend
Given the holes we have and the players we have in hand, how would you go about the offseason if there's only $20M left to spend?
Seems like Paredes and Arozarena could be an option. Who else is cheap and on the radar now?

Re: $20M To Spend
I'd rather spend for Snell. I know, this exceeds the $20M.
Then trade a few prospects, to pry a player with a lot of control, someone like Riley Greene.
Then trade for depth, someone who can backup 3B and catch. Someone like David Fry. He's 28 years old, so he shouldn't cost too much in prospects. He's not that great a catcher. But he can hit around 20 hrs on a 600 PA basis. He'd be a utility player and an emergency catcher.

Re: $20M To Spend
I think this would look pretty good and come in under $20M:
RF- Randy Arozarena ($9M)
DH- Tom Murphy ($2M)
SP- Trevor Bauer ($6M)
With the addition of Urias, it would make for a solid team imo, without breaking the bank.

Good ideas, $20M is probably pretty flexible, just wondering what the best budget finds out there are.ice99 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2023 5:31 amI'd rather spend for Snell. I know, this exceeds the $20M.

Re: $20M To Spend
It is supposed to be around 25M but it really doesn't matter. If that is their max budget, and somehow comcast wrote into their contract that they could reap all the profit from a change in format and the M's had no veto, no ability to equally increase the amount of pay-per-view as it were that is groce negligence and the team should instantly be devalued. Furthermore, all profits should be considered ill-begotten and a new owner ship group should be given the reigns at such a reduced cost to start-up. That those funds would be promised to be invested in the on-field product.
And it is all fucking BS:

Quote:
Forbes in March valued the Mariners at $1.7 billion, which ranks 16th in MLB. The club made $313 million for the 2021 season, according to Forbes data, up from $129 million in 2020, a shortened season played without fans because of the pandemic. The Mariners made $315 million in 2019—the last season before the pandemic—and $320 million the year prior. To meet Stanton’s expectation, the team would have to push into the $400 million range.
Stanton also wants T-Mobile Park to transition into a top-tier MLB stadium after committing roughly $100 million to upgrades. The Mariners will spend $55 million for in-stadium improvements, including a premium seating area expected to be ready by the 2023 season.
The Jack Nicholson seats still sell out regularly and generate significant income for the Atlanta club, according to Eales, who wouldn’t reveal financial details. A large part of MLS club revenue is attendance, and Forbes last calculated the Atlanta team made $78 million in revenue in 2018. That was up from roughly $47 million in 2017.
To meet Stanton’s expectation, the team would have to push into the $400 million range.
To do what double his league leading profits from a publicly subsidized cash-cow. There should be some written obligations that when your private business is propped up from public dollars who have a written contract to perform in certain areas in certain ways. And no this is not an opportunity for the libtards to jump in with "Yay, this is an endorsement of our DI, DEI, DEIJ, and the other endless alphabet soups of BS.
Re: $20M To Spend
I have no interest in trading prospects of any significant value. That said, if they did make a deal for Arozarena that made him a Mariner for the next three years, there's a very good chance those could be the best three years of his career.
I'll pass on Paredes. The park will kill him.

Re: $20M To Spend
Fangraphs says they're currently at $117 million. I say they go up to $150... so $33 million to spend.
Mariners trade Bryan Woo and Cade Marlowe to the Rays for SP Jeffrey Springs ($10.5M), OF Randy Arozarena ($7M), RP Jason Adam ($2.6M) and cash.
Mariners trade Emerson Hancock and Justin Topa to the Dbacks for 1B/DH Christian Walker ($12.2M)
Mariners trade Michael Morales, Taylor Dollard, Dylan Moore to the Cardinals for OF Tyler O'Neill ($5.4M)
1. JP Crawford SS
2. Randy Arozarena RF
3. Julio Rodriguez CF
4. Christian Walker DH
5. Cal Raleigh C
6. Ty France 1B
7. Luis Urias 3B
8. Tyler O'neill/Dom Canzone LF
9. Ryan Bliss/Josh Rojas 2B

Also, some Japanese reporter says the M's offered Ohtani a 1-year $65 million deal lol.
Re: $20M To Spend
We already have a BU catcher with a .545 OPS, why would we want one with a .734 OPS?ice99 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2023 5:31 amI'd rather spend for Snell. I know, this exceeds the $20M.

Fry played every position other the middle INF and CF. Seems like a good bench piece for sure.
