If JP doesn't watch out (and doesn't get going back to '23 levels), bro I don't care about your likely captaincy with this team, our SS talent is coming. I'd have no problem if I'm Hollander and Jerry D in shipping Crawford out. Time for that new era.

Fuck, if JP doesn't get going and our pitching craters, we could be looking at an ugly transition year in '24 that leads to about 3 prospects coming in and taking jobs in '25. I like Young, Locklear and Clase to come up and take jobs. And Montes and Emerson won't be far behind.

Interesting article

https://www.lookoutlanding.com/2024/3/2 ... ll-journey
I'm a big Clase guy, too. Made the claim on X this offseason that when Clase comes up, he's moving J-Rod to LF and some guy said you're crazy, he's never going to be a big-leaguer, was only hitting .220 and had a high k-rate. I said, "Pal, he's 20 yo at AA. He's a hard worker. He's gotten better every year. You need to put your faith in a player like that."

For me, that's the biggest issue with prospect rankings. They don't seem to factor in the player's work ethic, they just look at the present tool grade. Well, these kids obviously can get better just as much as they can get worse. Work ethic! that's the missing factor that some scouts don't see when they just watch a dude play for 9 innings and then skedaddle to the next town and the next game. You need to be around a player day after day for a week to really appreciate who they are and the work ethic they have, the fire they carry to be great.

Loved that story to understand more about Clase. I didn't realize quite how small he was at signing and how big he's gotten. Nor was I aware of how the org felt about him. Cool to read. I wonder where he fits. I suppose he'll be in AAA all season polishing his game. Depending on how it goes, he could get another few months down there until the M's make a move with Hanny (most likely)
Great point...

My biggest concern with classes might be the strikeouts. 165 at AA. He’s very young, so a lot of room to improve. He’s an mlb player for speed and defense alone as a 4th OF. He’s done will so far with only 5 K in 24 AB, small sample though. Gonna watch that through the year. Every time he hits the ball on the ground it’s a chance for a base hit

He's an inch taller than Kirby Puckett. 👍

So much young talent in the system. I wonder where the rest of my prospect hounds are at with the top of the M's system?

If we take Felnin out of the equation right now (I realize the glut of SSs, but man why is he being held back so hard? He's lost so much time because of that hamstring injury). Hopefully his talent just pushes him up quickly, but I wonder if he's always going to be trailing Emerson and Peete because they're also SSs? Arroyo too?

Anyways...

My thought is this right now: (Again leaving Felnin out)

1. Montes
2. Young
3. Emerson
4. Locklear
5. Clase
Very close to yours!

My M's top 10 at the end of the season:

1. Young
2. Emerson
3. Montes
4. Celestin
5. Clase
6. Locklear
7. Ford
8. Farmelo
9. Arroyo
10. Peete

Yep 18% is a great start. btw you should use PAs not ABs or you punish guys that walk a lot.

If he keeps it below 25% that is fine.

I know. If I was going to do a percentage I would. The difference in walk percentage is pretty small though. Low end 8 % high end 11-12 %. Question is, will he get better with experience, or will he get worse as pitchers get tougher. Lazaro worried more after his rookie year, but he’s definitely put those worries at ease this year

Michael arroyo with a good start, one of the guys I’ve got my eye on to possibly make a jump forward. Also, Emerson is playing SS while Peete moved to 3B, at least for today. Interested if that will be more permanent

Clase hit his first HR last night and is now at .333/1.017 Great start!

SP Diaz who we saw in ST looking like great depth now has a 0.50 ERA

Early season stats for top 10 prospects. Harry got his first hit in AA last night and is the only one off to a really bad start. Lots of greats starts as you can see. My two favs are killing it. Clase is super young for AAA and Montes on fire again with the highest BA and OPS.

Young: .308/.780

Ford: .048/.228

Emerson: .318/.991

Montes: .400/1.060

Celestin: NA

Farmelo: .231/.970

Peete: .200/.723

Locklear: .292/.745

Arroyo: .292/1.035

Clase: .323/1.034
