They were supposed to play it Friday the 15, but it got rained out. Glad I didn’t plan to stay for it.
Williamson replaced Emerson at third base in the top of the sixth. He lashed a single to center in his first at-bat in the bottom of the inning. In the eighth inning, he ripped a line drive into left that had a 108-mph exit velocity. He made a nice read on a ball in the dirt to advance to second and later scored on Luis Suisbel’s double to center.
“This was an awesome experience just being out on a beautiful field with beautiful weather,” Williamson said. “Honestly, I was just enjoying it, soaking it all in with my teammates.”
Williamson, 23, was a second-round pick (No. 57 overall) out of College of William & Mary in the 2023 draft. He was the Colonial Athletic Association player of the year as a senior and considered the top defensive third baseman in the draft. With the Mariners having three first-round picks in 2023 and taking Emerson, Farmelo and Tai Peete — all high school players who received large signing bonuses — they needed to be mindful of their signing bonus pool of money. They took Williamson in the second round and gave him a $600,000 signing bonus.
“We think Ben Williamson will be a real Major League third baseman,” Scott Hunter, the Mariners director of amateur scouting, said after drafting him.
Yes. We actually have some position player prospects that seem damn good and are almost a lock to at least get the chance of being the next Kelenic.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Sun Mar 24, 2024 2:50 pmI don't get it, what's the point of this game? Are they trying to showcase some guys in the organization that will never do crap in the majors, like they're some kind of hot commodity lol.
