Kelenic trade

Post by Hy Feiber » Mon May 20, 2024 12:03 am

It’s still somewhat premature to judge, but so far, it appears that the Atlanta Braves are idiots.

Look at all the dead salaries they took on, for a guy with no power, and hitting only .250, despite platooning.

What the hell were they thinking?

That’s the kind of stupid trade the Mariners have traditionally made.

I wonder what it feels like being a general manager, who got ripped off by the Mariners?

Crazy thing is he is considered to be the best GM in the game and has a great record of making the playoffs and has won a WS. I guess even the best Fuck up every now and then.

Anthopoulos probably spends his time admiring Dipoto and his reluctance to spend money. That is the clever way to build a roster. You guys should give Dipoto more credit

Wasn't that much money, $20 mil? He's toolsy enough he could stick. It might not be the steal everyone felt but it really won't take that much for it to be a wash.

From an analysis of his opening hot streak, the opinion here seemed to be NL pitchers didn't know how to pitch him. Seems more he was just hitting really well. I am curious what the deal is with him.
If we want to get even more specific, we can look and see that he has been hitting the curveball very well. He has seen the pitch twenty times this year, which equates to 16.0 percent of pitches thrown to him, and the third most seen behind the 4-seamer and changeup respectively.

In 2023 he did not struggle per se against the curveball with an xwOBA of .298 against it. In fact, the league average xwOBA against the pitch last season was .279. That being said, Kelenic has taken it to a new level so far this season. He is hitting 1.000 against the pitch with an xBA of .647, xSLG of .741, and xwOBA of .610.

Its years of control they paid for, and yes, they are still in play. Why would they have expected anything much different from kelenic this season based on his history? They traded for him expecting immediate reward? The guys a project that cost them very little. The reason they felt they could take on the project is because of the strength of their lineup.
